A Farang had died.
People were unsure if they knew him or not.
One Forum member thought that a photo of him might be helpful in that respect.
In an attempt to provide that help, some searching was done, and I posted a photo of him. I added that he had been a Facebook friend of an ex-member of this Forum.
A short while later, I received a very aggressive phone call from the ex-member, accusing me of posting all sorts of information about him. I quickly corrected his accusation, stating the comments in para 4 above, before terminating the call with a warning for him not to contact me again.
I wondered how he knew my phone number, before remembering that it was amongst my contact details on the Forum. Then it occurred to me that if he was a non-member, or a banned ex-member or otherwise, he wouldn't have access to my profile anyway, which suggested that he may have received the number by other means. Very few people have my phone number, but they include two or three on this Forum.
I do not appreciate receiving abusive and threatening calls from people who neither know me nor have met me to the best of my knowledge. I certainly don't appreciate such calls if they arise from incorrect information passed on to the callers by others. Such behaviour from the callers or others who might know them are not appropriate IMHO. If I felt that the situation arose because of another member misrepresenting a genuine effort on my behalf to provide a little help regarding the death of a fellow ex-pat, then I would cancel my membership of this Forum without any misgivings, regardless of my enjoyment of other aspects involved.
I have amended my contact details since the phone call, removing the phone number, and shall certainly think twice before trying to be helpful again.
