    Nailed it.

Alot of people totally agree with my post, judging from my CP, and some dont, or want to somehow make this about me and my shortcomings. But in this case, you have to really want to live out there. I did when I first went. Not anymore.

Humbert I really dont give a fuck if anybody wants to defend allan or that crew.

Some like it out there and are content, and good on them, and alot are not, or are like me and after a while find it way to boring, tedious, and lacking.

Im not the first to voice these opinions of Isaan or Expats in Isaan and I wont be the last.

You state this like Ive never been shopping before, or shopping somehow becomes voodoo because its in Thailand.

I get what you are saying, but for every normal human I meet there is usually several weirdos.

People may not like to hear/read this shit, and will certainly try and make this about me, but the truth remains - Isaan does not acquire very good examples of humanity. Myself included.

Regular, proud family expats herding children are not the norm.

I'm not defending Allan or that crew. I got booted out of the SF Forum. I'm just curious why you trash his building enterprise?

Of course it is. I would never be here if I were in my career prime years. If I were young and living here it would indicate a sort of like surrender, laziness or a lack of interest in living.

Slick, are you able to convince the good wife regarding a possible big move to the city?

Some just aren't cut out for country life.
And others have no desire to be comfortable within a metropolis setting.

Of course. The states too. It's true some have no desire to leave the hip of the family. Mine didn't really have any desire until we started going to the states and getting out of Thailand.

It's not like BKK is on another planet. 4-5 hours drive. Busses all day everyday. No crisis there.

    4-5 hour commute indeed, Nev.

He obviously has never made that trip.

Which leads me to be suspicious still.

....Surin - most of the Farang scum and affiliated hang outs are concentrated in and around Mueang Surin and associate with their kin appropriately.

A sizable province, one just needs to find the very distant locale where any Farang neighbors are 50kms from anywhere.

    Problem solved.
quite a lucid post geff. Can't green ya at the moment , makes perfect sense to me though

Why the fuck would any farang want to live in a shit hole like Surin. When i read the headline of this thread issuing a warning i thought it was going to say that the average price of somtam has gone up 2 baht.....hence much anguished wailing and suicidal thoughts.

Dunno gaz- depends on the individual I guess. Quite a few f'langs do live there and surrounds (enough for them to be thoroughly biatchy with each other, anyway!). How many times have you been there, how long have you spent there? I could quite easily live there personally- quite a buzzy town for it's size, and the farang comforts are easily enough available. Interesting contrast to Ubon, which while bigger has a much more sprawled out feel to it, and a lower per capita farang population.

I once had a girlfriend from Surin and spent a week with her family. When i call the place a shithole im really meaning the village they stayed in. Rubbish everywhere, lethargic people just wandering around, all the blokes drinking at all hours and just a feeling of lost hope and desolation. Her family where very nice though even if they did have a bit of the voodoo about them.

You are very fortunate to have that experience as it will stand you in good stead for living in Scotland if it should ever become an independent nation.

Segregating oneself is the only hope one has of hanging onto one's marbles living in these small villages. I really have no interest in sitting on a mat all day in a stupor interrupted only by tending fighting cocks or poking at a tree with a long stick.

Understandably many of the Thai ladies that show an inkling of interest in "having a farang" come from the poorer families of Thailand understanding that 75% of the Kingdom would be considered "poorer" (if not more).
Their "job" is to get "you" to make their and their families lives better. Period.
All the rest is just the stories of how that has or hasn't worked out and whether or not they really give a shyte about 'the saviour' when he gets older.
Family first and foremost is job # 1 particularly if the parents are living without financial security.

Let's stop trying to be PC about all things good and wonderful. Please think about how you met your wives or girlfriends and carry on from there. Basically same as any other country.
    My 2 satang.

[Caveat: Does not always hold true for ALL Thai ladeez, of course]

Gary's former gf tale above is atypical of what one will find in the poor Isaan Tha villages. A younger man with nothing to lose might deem this exciting and vibrant and enjoy the change from the West's 9 to 5 grind and headaches.

Unfortunately the village vibe isn't conducive for everybody's mental or physical health.
Simply amazing how many Westerners can be found in and around town drinking to their troubles thinking it will ease their painful reality...though it rarely does.
Then again if one enjoys "wide open spaces" there can be plenty to be found in Isaan.

Basically it all comes down to each individual's expectations, dreams, goals, reality, age, health and pocketbook.

Life is a learning experience...unfortunately it is not for everyone. Some simply check out from depression.

In the end if you're happy or content that is all that matters.
If you're not take a good hard sober look in the mirror and ask yourself what change is required.
Sadly many stay mired in their misery and look to share it with others. One can either choose to avoid those situations or get sucked up into the crap that dwells in those conversations.

(Most of the stories we hear or read is just someone else's bullshyte. Take everything with a pinch of salt.)
Be happy...because if you're not - what exactly was the point anyhow.

Just logged into surin farang......got the message " Banned for possible crisp and calling the forum shit".

I can understand the second part, but what the hell is possible crisp?...New one to me.

Hint: you know BOLOA'S real name?

He's had a long history - on/off - with the ever so paranoid Dave and AtB.
So, probably associate any suspicions with Boloa. A nemesis.
