I concur. It's pretty much a wasteland. I live near Sangkha. People keep to themselves, there are no restaurants and no bars. Life centers around family.
My wife has shops in Sangkha, Prasat and Surin so we make the rounds tending to them and going on frequent replenishment trips to Bangkok. I really don't have to time to dwell on my boredom.

This could be said regarding many provinces/locales.
Depending on one's disposition, the isolation from all things Farang can be a godsend - and there are numerous provinces are somewhat vacant of Farang presence [residents/travelers]

It's a shame when people that are genuinely going to move to the Surin area and want to join a local forum to try and get some local knowledge off the Expat community ,instead of being welcomed they're rebuffed before they even make a post by its Admin . I was under the impression that the owner started the forum to bring the ex-pat community together...not to shun those wanting help
I call into SF regularly ( under the radar as I'm banned ) and to be honest gone is the era of the interesting informative posts.Without new members it's become so mundane and boring, especially for those that aren't part of the small clique ... its more like viewing someones personal Facebook page than a forum these days. The shout box is full of personal info that should really be posted by PM. No wonder they don't want all and sundry joining up ( or even viewing the Forum) when you see some of the things they talk about !!. As many have said 'more like a club than a forum' !!
I'm sure if the SF forum was more open ( not only to new members but to the public as well ) the forum would grow. Google and other search engines spambot would be able to troll the forums pages thus creating more chance of the site getting hits....which would be good for the local businesses that advertise on there too
But where would they post they views on Soi Kola ( a local red-light area in Surin ) and other things like the best local rub and tug massage places . But then again I've found it's normally the sad old gits that talk about sex the most are the ones that can't get it up anymore
They could always start a small members only section where they could post their dirty smutty sexist stuff in private.......... Oh..sorry they already have , its called surinfarang.com

I bet that Cent is a mod over there, he's the bloke with the restaurant. Seems nice at first but a bit mad in my opinion where forums are concerned.

I don't think Cent is a Mod but all sponsors are allowed to moderate their own sponsored section ( I believe ) .You wouldn't want anyone complaining that they had to wait 70 minutes for fish and chips or saying 200 baht for a English breakfast is a bit of a rip off ....they only want the post's that praise

I didn't say he had...but you wont find hardly any negativities posts when it comes to the Sponsors section
The SF Mod ( singular ) is very protective when it comes to their forums sponsors........even protecting them from themselves. One Local Bar Owner thought it was OK to post on his section that he could stay open long after he was allowed to as his family had connections with the local BiB. That post didn't stay on there long...for obvious reasons

My sole intention was to learn about an area of Isaan which I had not visited. I am a member of many forums, some of which I have never posted to. My conduct on this forum is pretty good even if I say it myself. I am baffled why the moderators at Surinfarang should have banned me. It is not as though I would have posted there other than to ask for information. Prior to learning about my ban I had read almost every post in an effort to learn. The moderators there should have seen this for themselves.

Sadly, there is no other forum for that region. I repeat that I have spoken to Alan the Builder by phone and he certainly didn't seem to be an idiot. His forum cannot grow while the present moderators control it.

Comments made here have helped to paint an image of Surin for me. I like quiet places and I am sorry that they banned me for no reason at all.

t-i-c or would've done the trick ;-p...but now my i'm beginning to learn your style ;-)

Take it ez, Hum...it doesn't sound like you're enjoying Isaan all that much from what you've been writing.
I personally can understand your sentiment particularly the foul taste of being banned by SF.com .
I was very taken back as I've written prior. Like Major Tom ,"There's nothing much I can do...floating in a tin can..."

This is still a fine forum for potential intelligent discussions...potentially.
One can write what they wish with juvenile name-calling, bullying , taunts and ridicule for added spice.

As well anything you require discussing about Isaan can be discussed in the Northeast Forum topic section (here).

Hardly the way I'd describe it. Amused is more accurate.

Are you talking about 'this forum' or the other forum, Coffee? If you're talking about SF I think 'potential is definitely the operative word.

I guess that's what you call a left-handed compliment. But I agree and no one's arguing that TD is not a good place for intelligent discussion.
