Looks interesting to me. A few stops along the way from BKK to NK and into Laos seems like a good way to spend a week or so.
I guess a train ride would allow one to spend some quality time with your thoughts while taking in the countryside.

PS. Nice shots and home page, Mr. Newman,
I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble. Augustus Caesar

    Raleigh Grifter?

Nong Khai for me is the tuk-tuk trip to the Friendship Bridge trying to avoid visiting the drivers mate's travel shop.
or indeed the famous nong khai to vientienne marathon, then one can run over the bridge!

Nice pic, Tex. My wife and I (well, the wife) own 9 rai just outside of Nonk Khai maybe a mile into the country south east of The Bridge. I like the town. Yeah, they roll up the sidewalks early, but I've had my fill of bars and they've pretty much had it with me. We hope to buid a house and retire there in a few years if the dollar is still worth trading over there by then. I've been reading a lot of the construction sites on TD and glad to see it's possible to get something built without the total disasters I've heard about everywhere else. I hope you keep a thread on your construction progress.

I spent one of the most memorable evenings I've ever had, in a wooden musical hall listening to a fellow from Udon Thani playing Carabou-style music.

The fellow was an absolute wizz. The whole place stood up & jived every time he came on stage. Never forgot that.
