    Boloa's Village News

    Boloa's Village News

Here is what is happening in our Village.

Over the New year our Village had a 7 day party for fund raising to help improve the Villages and the Temple. Each household had to donate 3000 baht towards the party ( with 100 family households that 300,000 baht ).The Temple was elaborately decorated and people came from near and far to attend the party and all the different events that where held each day.
After the 7 day party had finished it was announced that the party had made just short of 7 million Baht. The first thing the Headman of the Village did was to buy a new car for the temple, which he keeps at his new house, the same new house he built shortly after becoming the new village Headman.
Then about 2 months ago the Head Monk ( who is a ladyboy ) of the temple was asked to leave after being caught watching gay porn and having other Ladyboys in his room at night.
Then this month when the Electricity Bill arrived the new Head Monk went to the Bank to draw out money to pay the bill ,but the Temple Account had been cleaned out leaving just 26 Baht in the Kitty.
So yesterday the local Villagers had a big meeting in the Temple and asked the old Monk Monk to come and explain if he knew what had happened to the money. He told everybody that after the party he was given 300,000 by the Headman for his 7 days work at the party ( nearly 43,000 baht a day...nice work if you can get it ).He said " this was a gift so how could he steal it ".Also he said to draw money from the bank you need more that just one signature .He also said as he had done nothing wrong he would not be attending any more meetings about this matter .
It has also been found that the New car was bought buy paying 300,000 deposit and then monthly instalments. The Headman has nicely said that as the Temple has no money he will take over the payments so the car is not taken back as long as the car is put in his sole name
So after all the accounts have been checked there seems to be a total of 6 million Baht missing.
My guess ( just a guess mind you ) is that as there are 20 People on the committee and the 6 million has been shared out , meaning each committee member gets a familiar sounding 300,000 Baht.

I will keep you all informed of any latest updated news when I get it.

Just another normal day in Thai Village life
    Big Ol' Lucky Ol' Al.

    Boggling.

Are your sure the sums are right here?
Parlaying 300k into 7 million in 7 days is quite a feat...

Thats a prime example of why I could not live in Thailand, I wouldnt be able to handle the day to day corruption.
On the other hand in Australia we are sometimes over regulated.

I was quite a big event plus thousands upon thousands of white envelopes where sent out in boxes of 200 to other Villages all over Isaan. I think that's where a largest % of the money came from.

Its in Surin and if this every hits the local news outlets ( which I doubt ) I will post the links.I can't name the Village because it is just here-say at the moment.
I know there is a thing called Chinese Whispers where things get exaggerated but I am only telling you the news that my wife has told me,I'm 100% sure the money is missing and I have seen Pick-ups full of people going to the local Amphur Office to complain and try to get something done about the matter.

As we all know corruption is riff in the Villages but more and more Villagers are now saying enough is enough and all they want is their Village to be run without all this crap going on.

At the same time though, the people that are complaining are the same people that took the Payola bribe to get the Village Headman voted for in the first place !!!!!!

BTW ....I call them Payola Bribes because I have to listen to that tw*t every bloody morning over the loud speaker system !

Must be one hell of a rich village if each house hold had to give 3,000 Baht. Round here 20 Baht or if you are rich 1 or 200 Baht. Jim

The Amphur is an anagram of Samon

But like I say this is all hear-say but most of what I have written has an element of truth in it

Everyone was told they had to pay 3k towards the party and if they didn't have the money they had to borrow it or get they family in Bangkok or where ever they are working to send the money to help.Everyone was told the money raised would go to improving the Village roads ( I've had a hole in the road outside my house for 7 years ) and other community projects + the Temple
Also everybody in our Village has has to pay 100 if somebody dies for household...which normally adds up to about 30k as there are about 300 houses. The 3k for the party was for each family as some family has 2...3....or even 4 houses on their family plot.

I hope that makes sense !!

Not doubting the story, just the amounts. Here a death if family or an respected elder 100 Baht if you have it, but 20 if no relation.
If the village head here started making demands for that kind of money, he wouldn't be living in the village long.

Village stories often get blown way out of proportion, last month the wife [ a Uni grad ] tells me 4 children have died from Dengue fever in the last 2 weeks, everyone knows. When I saw the local Doctor, turns out 4 children were admitted to hospital with symptoms similar to Dengue fever.
Last year or year before, the village was evacuating because there was going to be a big earthquake and the whole village was going to be swallowed up into a big hole. Turns out it started with a forestry warning about landslides in the mountains due to heavy rain.
Nothing better to do than gossip at times. Jim

In the wife's village the funeral insurance system is voluntary. If you don't contribute, you don't get looked after if you peg it.

As for the other scam, I doubt it would wash. My FiL is the bloke everyone in the village turns to (even the poo yai baan) and everyone gets along OK. If he did get a cut from a scam, then we certainly haven't seen any of it.

You may read about shootings and killings on the Cambo border, it's in the press because of the temple dispute. we are may be 50 km north, no press, no police, only border soldiers. Law is dispensed by the local heads and village leaders. Do bad things and you get told to leave, if you don't, things get bad, Not a year goes by without bodies being found in the jungle nearby. Nowhere as bad as the Cambo border where I think at least 52 were killed last year, but everyone here has guns. I once asked the sub district Governor, while he was signing a land buy. What happens if in years to come the seller comes back and claims the land. He would have to kill him. simple.
As a farang, no one would question me carrying a rifle or a hand gun, border soldiers are locals and all are family.
My nearest neighbor [ farang ] caught a guy burgling his house, he is on the main road about 7 km away, broke his hand pouncing the crap out of the guy There is a police presents on the road the police arrived, only 300 meters from his house there is a police, small station. His wife's family are highly respected in the area and some are senior police. He was told the guy is still alive, do you want us to come back in a hour.
This side may be Thailand, but this is Lao country and communist controlled, BKK is another country. Plenty of people on both sides of the land border carrying AK 47s and M16s.
If a farang wants to go into the jungle, he has to have at least a 2 soldier
escort at all times. It's not Korat or Surin, it's a jungle land crossing, lots of smuggling, drugs, animals, motorbikes, illegal logging and people. And you don't screw around, village head or not. Jim
