Going to Kanthalak, and Si Sa Ket

Hi TD'ers I'm going back to visit the family in Kanthalak all of November. My wife will be quiet busy the first 2 weeks and leave me alone in the day time ( oh she will regret that :-)
We are buying up some land next to her rubber farm, and if i show my face price will double (she say)
So...what to see/do in that area ? I like fishing, trekking, seeing nature. I also like a friendly waterhole with a friendly service Any advice ?
I have motorbike and also a car for my use.

I will also spend a few days in Si Sa Ket, looks like both the Belgium and French guy's restaurants are closed from what I read ??

So if any of you guy's live out there, any advice is welcome.

Thanks DD, did see it last year, but worth another visit...
It was special to see a monk, walk around with a bucket of cement and a bag of empty bottles and repair here and there. Feeding the fish was also fun ( for a minute or 2)

I have to say i was impressed to see that, a whole wat, and big, build out of bottles.

the most impressive thing is that the monks appear sober

I usually try to get to the Prihear Vihar temple.

but it is closed again

New Norwegian restaurant in Kud Khan (not far from Sisaket) and in Sisaket one near the railway line run by Bryan and his wife. Look up Thai Visa in the Isaan forum for more details on new watering hole in Sisaket etc.

I have a thing about waterfall's, it's the nicest place to sit and enjoy a cold one, and up there I guess its even possible to have them alone (the waterfalls )

Bryan in Si Sa Ket will be visited too, its quiet decent food there.

Hi the French cafe restuant is run by a Guy called Patrick, plenty of Foreigners go there, and the food is really good. Well worth a visit

Patrick left Sisaket a year ago. Le Bagett is closed, so is Willy's, opposite. Newest bar is Cuckoo's Nest, in Walking Street backing onto railway line. Frank's "Living in the Past" is still open, going N on road past police station. Also a restaurant opp. Bkk Bank, although run by a westerner caters more for Thais. In Kantaralak is Pizza4U, run by Norbet.

Kantararak is a shit-hole, as is Si Saket. Blink and you will miss them both. There's nothing to do, nowhere to go apart from the odd noodle shop.

Well... To stay away is not an option and belive it or not, i quiet like the slow life there. But thanks for updates about resturants in ssk.

My wife is from Khantaralak, too, and we drive up from Phuket 1-2 times a year for visiting family and friends.

There are several restaurants in and around town serving good thai food, some have live music in the evening.

There is a restaurant with live rock music and dancing open to early hours and there is a Tawan Daeng kind of restaurant with folk music too.

There are lakes and rivers around for fishing.

If You are there on 28. november then go to the park in city center and enjoy the Loy Kratong festival there.

I come from a small town in Jylland, Denmark and have been working many years in small towns in Greenland, perhaps that is why I feel at home in Kantharalak, so we may one day move up there if we can sell the house in Phuket.
