Hi All,
I'm Troy...decided to join because I am hacked off with yet another PAD demo...

Not political...just anti PAD

Live in a small village in Sakhon Nakhon Province....all are very upset with the PAD!

BTW...I know other things that may be of interest....

...just mad at the moment that the PAD can destroy 3 legitimate Governments by using this "nationalism thing"...and may possibly start a war that Thailand can never win....

Welcome Troy. You're certainly not alone being PO'd by the nutters, but I hope you'll find more than politics to like here.

Thanks..guys...the BTW in my post was a reference to knowledge other than politics...a subject that I only usually get involved with when it starts going downhill in a major way.

I'm particularly interested in farming in Isaan ... but need to read the background posts before posting...so apologies if it takes a while.

I see there are a few with opposing views to me and the community I know in Thailand...no problems with that...as long as the debate remains cool. I have no interest in flame wars.

Welcome Troy, i visited Sakon nakorn last year and thought the city was relatively civilised. large wide roads and plenty of parking spaces,also a couple of reasonably priced hotels. Only one golf course (9 hole) so didn't stay too long.

As a resident i would love to hear what you have to say about the place.

Yes, I live in Sakhon Nakon province, but about 70 klicks from the main town. I used to fly in there when the route was run by Thai airways but now fly in to Udon. The army golf course by the airfield is 18 hole...you just get the same holes on the second round ...If you turn right at the traffic lights, before the airfield, on the way in on route 22 (sorry for the Americanism) and follow the sign for Karasin, there is a nice golf range that I prefer to use for practice. The courses around Udon, are preferable to the ones around Sakhon Nakon.

Opposite the bus station there are some really good tool shops and the prices were reasonable a few years ago (not sure now with the exchange rate as it is). Good little cafe there as well.

From there, if you are turn right and then left at the next junction, there is a timber yard just up the hill (on the left) that I recommend for good wood.

If you turn left a couple of junctions before the bus station (coming from the big roundabout) there is a really good radio model shop. Guy came up from BKK about 5 years ago and has some really good models in there.

The usual Big C, Makro and Tesco-Lotus are all places I'm sure you know about already.
