Welcome, where are you living? I think I read that your wife is indonesian? If so, how is she coping with living overeas? If you're an ajarner can we assume that you are teaching?
No I'm finishing up a history degree here in the states. My wife is from Bali and she likes it here. She is managing a sushi bar here. We are going to see her family in Bali in mid May. Are you currently living in Indo? I have read a lot of your threads. Really nice stuff. We plan to move to Bali next summer.
welcome to teakdoor
Like your name choice! Superbad rocks harder than The Godfather, good pic and welcome! This place is much looser than TV and less annoyingly hostile than ajarn. You'll like it here I bet.
Yeah, I like this forum. It's a bit more forgiving and lighthearted. I love the travel threads.
My name is Joe and a good friend of mine turned me on to this site a few years ago. I lived in Bangkok from 1970 to 1976, while I worked for Federal Electric Corporation, a subsidiary of ITT. We helped install the first International phone system in Thailand.
I came to Thailand to "escape the madness" prevalent in the US during the late sixties, upon returning from a years tour in Vietnam.
I married a Thai girl in 1971 and next year we will celebrate our 40th anniversary.
We opened a Thai Restaurant in Milwaukee, WI. called Bangkok Orchid in 1988 and added a Night Club called Thai Joe's in 1994. We were watching over my ailing parents who both passed on recently.
We closed our business after 16 years and are trying to decide where to retire. We will probably spend half our time in Thailand and half in the US.
I read a GREAT DEAL of criticism about the Thai people, culture, politics, religion etc. on various Teak Door forums and it make me very hesitant about moving to Thailand?
I love Thai people, Thai food and Thai culture but to read the forums in Teak Door, it sounds like the country has changed so much since 1976 that I could not possibly be happy living in Thailand!
Has Thailand become such a horrible country to live in or are the eternal cynics the only ones posting on Teak Door?
Sincerely,
Joe
welcome Joe , put ya glasses on and use a normal sized font please .
Welcome McLovin and Joe.
Joe, most new people here start their own new threads and try not to highjack another newbies.
