    OK so I'm an ass#ole

Yeah I'm and asshole 'cause I started posting elswhere without properly introducing myself.

I'm a 36 year old American merchant marine living in Korat. Came here 6 years ago for a vacation (you know why), got her pregnant and ended up staying. Every day is better than the next.

Anyways, I'm more than a little shy and don't drink much and generally am considered a dic$head. Live here about half the time, but since I don't go to pubs and don't chat up strange farang men at the mall, I dont have much farang contact. Thank god for TD.

Thanks Gents for the more than warm welcome and the support for my fledgling house (thread.) When I'm not here I sail as an AB Tankerman on an Articulated Tug and Barge unit (atb) on the west coast usa. The last three years I've just shuttled between Bellingham, WA and Portland, OR and Vancouver BC. Good work if you can get it, the downside being away from home (or traveling to/from) half the time.

Don't worry about the protocol DA, it doesn't exist, we used to be a very straight laced discussion board but then BG joined and standards sort of slipped.
So introduce yourself if you want, use profane language if necessary, you can even discuss the finer points of felching lady boys, no one cares.

Thanks all of you. CMNs thread about selling that new house of his was pretty funny.

As for the swearing, I thought the swear words had to be misspelled i.e. arse not ass fok instead of fuck and so on. Oh well, I do swear a lot in real life, guess I could do it here. (my son's first word was fucker- no joke).

The obscenity checker is very liberal but at times a complete mystery. You can say mother fucker but any mention of [at][at][at][at] (cnut) is transformed into gibberish.

Bout 8 years, built one kunt a house and am renting again, but don't worry about not drinking, I have went over 26 years without one and I feel OK from it, fact feel a hell of a lot better for doing it.

Don't know what I would think of an articulated tug and tow,,pobly wouldn't like it as well as a barge out on the end of a 1/4-1/2 mile wire.
I have never heard of one anyway.

    Thanks, all for the welcome.

Here's the deal with ATBs. The tug pushes the barge, never tows. Ours pins in (to a big notch in the barge) with a hydraulic pin system, and pin/ depin is a very routine thing unlike those old ITBs where the tug without the barge was inherently unstable. The tug articulates on an axis with the pins. The ride is very good and we make 12 kts.

The barge I've been working on carries 150,000 bbls of clean product. Jet fuel or gas. Here's the reason they're building so many of 'em right now- the entire crew is eight men. Cap, Cheng, 2 mates, 2 tankermen, 1 deckhand, 1 cook. Apparently with the small crew size these things are very profitable. Not that I care just how much money the company makes, but we seem to be appreciated for the work we do, and my company Crowley is building 10 more in the next few years.

Well I guess it is doing OK, Just something I have never seen and did not think it would be to sucessful in that rough ocean up there, sometimes takes hours or days to get by Blanco when it wants to act up, which is regular.
I had a Black friend that I sailed blue water with out of Seattle named Rocky Crockwell, he was a AB and lived in Tacoma when we were together and after we quit blue water ships he went to work for Crowley and was mate on the "Warrior" I think it was, last time I saw him he came to my house in Portland when they had that Urea Barge in Port of Portland loading some shit for Alaska.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine having a longer commute. I work a 28/28 which isn't ideal, but liked this job enough to stick with it. Once again thanks to everyone
for the support about the house. It's a freaking nightmare, but I've got quite a lot of sticktoitiveness.
