    Travel to Thailand, or not...

I want to get the wife from Seoul to Bangkok, as her father is unwell.

Damn tricky to find any kind of flights. I don't think there's anything direct until November.

I can find flights from Seoul to Tokyo and Hong Kong, but even though there are rumours of flights from those places to Bkk, I've phoned lots of airlines and got nothing.

Anybody know of any flights from East Asia that are going to Bangkok? At the moment, I'm just phoning around various airlines trying to be as flexible as possible, but not much joy.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

Be careful and it might have to be a repatriation flight. She will also have to spend 14 days in quarantine but as a Thai national its free at government places I think. Sorry mate a really bad time to have this happen.

she knows she's looking at 14 days in state quarantine, right?

and it's not quarantine in your house.

it's on a military base....or at least it used to be.

Check the Thai embassy in Seoul website. I believe she will need to inform them of her desire to return to Thailand and she will be given a queue number for a repatriation flight.
The embassy should provide details of how to arrange flight

^ It's in one of the hotels from a list provided by the embassy. A Thai friend was going to go back to Thailand to look after her sick mother but has decided against it. She said the current rules are too restrictive unless you are returning for a long period of time (she wanted to go for 2 months).

The hotel is free for Thai citizens, but you can't use any of the hotel facilities, just stay in the room and receive food at regular intervals for 2 weeks.

You need to go to the embassy to find out about travel and quarantine accommodation. They will also provide guidance on required documentation, e.g. Covid Test Certificate, Covid Health Insurance etc.

    Bah Humbug!!

Call/visit the local Thai Embassy - first she needs to apply for and be granted a Certificate of Entry. The Embassy will have the paperwork drill du jour she will have to go through and the current details required as of today. Good luck. Things change daily but there are reports of some Thai's having difficulties returning home.

    Little extra, for others.

Whatshername went back a while ago, from the US.

First Covid test shortly after arriving in Thailand. Second Covid test after the 14 day stay.

When doing a 14 day stay at a government facility, you’re going to be staying with 2 other people who could be Covid carriers.

    Safety First.

Do as whatshername did and get a private suite at one of the government approved hotels. Food is alright, they do your laundry, internet, TV, service the room.

When arranging the flight/s back to BKK request business class [the carrier (go-between/agent) will not offer unless you ask] or you’re going to be sitting in the cattle car with passengers next to you that could be carriers.

The embassy will want to see all paid receipts for info above before they’ll OK you to board a flight. Whatshername didn’t need to show any kind of insurance but was required to get the fit to fly (maybe 36 to 48 hours before boarding).
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

How will you smuggle her back to Gowlee Betty or will you cross that bridge when you come to it?

Will she leave instructions for you on how to feed and groom the poodle?

Mendip showed pics of his commute airline only allowing 1 passenger per bank of seats on his flights so maybe covid has some benefits for economy class travel.

You can even pick your hotel.Depends if you are minted or have no pot to piss in. There are lots of youtube vlogs that you can look up, Raymond. Very surprised you didn't know about this.

Watched the video - absolutely positive there will lines of applicants stretching around the block to get their STV -

Amazing. Not so much how much work went into engineering this clusterfuck - amazed they actually released the information with a straight face.

From the video they say they expected 1,200 tourists per month but they already have 2,270 potential who are willing to comply with the rigmarole. Mostly from Myanmar, China, Kuwait and Japan. And, of course, lets count money, they expect these 2,270 will bring in 115 million baht.

Also they projected 3 flights per week with 100 tourists allowed per flight. I guess the others are repatriates - however, they did say only charter flights and private jets/yachts?

Of course, this video is dated Sep 15 denotes the STV and says that Thailand is re-opening in October.

I believe the 2,270 folk they talk about are those who desperately need to get back to Thailand for family or business and/or check on their property, etc. and are willing to jump through the many, many, many hoops outlined in the video.

But, there we have it - everything will be fine come October - and there is Laughter and Singing throughout the Kingdom

a big shout out to TAT

The Holiday Inn Pattaya room photo posted earlier looks quite nice... and then, I think of spending two solid weeks staring at those same four walls and...

    Well, you get the picture

How can someone quarantine at home prior to travel and see a doctor to receive a Fit to Fly certificate 72 hours before flying? Thai logic at its finest.

The new plan is to let tourists in for nine months after quarantine.

All they'd have to do is prove they've got accommodation paid for...for the entire nine months.
