Actually almost 230 years since the first ex-Brits arrived would you believe. Lucky for us, we get to send the undesirable ones home nowadays.

You know how spring starts at the spring (?) equinox? Not ours, the British soldiers - the Rum Corp - used to whinge it was too hot for their winter uniform by the end of August, so were allowed to switch to summer uniform on September 1. Which is why our spring officially starts then, and Autumn on March 1.

And the Brits haven't stopped whining since.
