    hi y'all

I'm actually new to the forum, although I registered 2 years ago. Been teaching English in Phayao and Lampang for the last 3 years about. Now, I'm thinking about kickin' back in retirement mode, since I heard it's so easy to get a hassle free retirement visa. I'm 63 (almost) so maybe it's about time. What y'all think about Chiang Mai as a refuge for expat westerners?

    Welcome aboard, wj.

Just to clarify - there's no such animal as a 'Retirement Visa'

It's an extension based on Retirement and the hassle-free aspect is true. All you need is 800K THB in a Thai Bank (your name only) 2 months before you go for the first extension. Then it's 2 months before with each successive extension you apply for.

Hi, Boo Mee. Have I seen you someplace before (on this forum)?

This is what I heard. Can you affirm or deny? (oh, sorry, I can only speak to Americans-i'm a bigot). You go to the U.S. Consolation here in Chiang Mai. BTW, you have to make an appt. for a Tues. or a Thurs. (?) but you can get your queer card online. Then you go down to the consulate, swear to God that you make 2k/mo. or have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank (whichever you prefer). The consulate issues you paper work that you then take to the Thai immigration dept. office down by the airport. They give you a 60 day visa which they will renew in 60 days for a year. Next year, ditto. and so on and so on......

You're obviously from the south. I thought I was the only one that says Ya'll. There isn't many of us on here. What state are you from?

The "y'all" thing has been picked up on by others not strictly from below the Mason-Dixon Line of late. I use it from time to time and 'am not from the south.

Sorry if I gave you the impression I'm from the south. I'm actually from California and grew up in the '60s when it was a pretty commonplace term my friends and I have always used, but rarely. Also, it's usually pronounced 'you all', rather than "y'all". But the South rocks! Lynard Skinner, The Allman bros', The Charlie Daniels Band, Elvin Bishop, Hank Williams Jr., oh and of course.....LIMP BIZKIT! Where are you in Thailand?

No offense taken. And you have nothing to apologize for.
