    Hi all,

After a few years in the shadows I finally got around to signing up a few days back, and have been breaking myself in gently in the games room. Thanks Blue, Natalie, r1 pet, RS and the others for humouring me there.

Bit of background: I'm a Brit and based in India at the moment. I was working in Bangkok for eight years about a decade ago and return to Thailand from time to time to see the in laws and other extended family as and when duty calls. We are in the throes of, building may be too strong a word for it, knocking together a sort of holiday pad in Isaan at the moment. If I can string together enough photos then will attempt to post a bit about it in the construction section.

    Cheers

    Roobarb

    Splendid.

Glad we still have the Raj to keep the natives in check.

Thanks all, I wasn't going to bother with the newbies bit but then thought it only right to introduce myself first rather than joining the party unannounced. Perhaps as Withnallstoke suggests the standards of the Raj linger on, though looking out of the window I have to say it's not immediately obvious where.

Welcome. Where in India are you located? I spent three years there some time ago - lived in Delhi but travelled a lot throughout the country.

Actually I should count it as four years, as I spent one year before heading out in one-on-one Hindi language study. Six days a week, 8 hours a day. Sucked very huge......plus the language is pretty much useless if you get any distance away from Delhi. Wasted year, actually, but I had no choice.

Thought I knew India well, but think I only passed through Gurgaon once. I remember it as a fairly grim, concrete wasteland, although that was 25 years ago; I'm sure it's changed considerably.

Gurgaon has changed a bit since then... Once you get used to the way things work (or don't work) it''s a pretty easy place to live and most things are available locally.

Still not much in the way of nightlife but hey, it's India, just living here provides enough gentle entertainment to keep one amused throughout the day.

Very true. In three years, I don't think a day went by when I didn't see something extremely strange......
