    Todays Drive Through Hell

Today I drove from Nakhorn Nayok into Suvarnabhumi airport via Highway 305 through Rangsit, onto the motorway at Klong 5

Rangsit Klong 6 at Big C and DO Home the road is completely flooded 2 feet deep on both sides but manageable in a truck

Upon entering the motorway there are thousands of cars, buses, taxis and large trucks parked all over the place

The toll booth at Lam Lukka was flooded going towards the airport 2 feet deep but passable

After Lam Lukka the rest of the drive to the airport was dry

Upon arriving at the airport all parking garages full of people who have parked their car to save it from the flood. All parking garages closed and no place to park at all

    Return drive through hell

On the return drive, traffic was backed up for 2.5 hours from the Lam Lukka Rangsit toll booth

That area looks like a watery apocolypse. By the time I reached the tollbooth, the water was mid-way up the door in my truck for at least 1 mile. The waves from the large trucks were so high and hard it was like the whole truck was taking a wild hit in the side.

Water was pouring in the truck, front and back with over 6" of water inside the vehicle. 100's of cars flooded out and abandoned, 100's of people walking in the dark through the deep waters. Not a streetlight one, or light to even light up the area.

Not one warning sign or policemen to warn motorists that the water had gotten that deep.

Upon existing the motorway at Rangsit Klong 5 onto Highway 305 east, encountered deep water. No warning signs or police there either

The deep water from Klong 5 goes on for at least 3 km towards Klong 6

By this time the engine overheat light had come on, from the constant revving of trying to push water out of the exhaust pipe

I was damn happy to make it home, albeit hours later, in one piece

I will never ever try this again and I am highly pissed off that the police would bot be there to notify motorists how deep the water had gotten

I was coming in the 305 a few days ago on the bike after a few days away in Isaan. Coming in I hit the first patch of water. Couldn't see how far it went through as I was taking the next left. It obviously went on quite a bit so it was time to turn around and push it back (bike running in 1st) as to make sure the pipe stayed above the water.

It was around 3pm and at least 500 degrees celsius. All the oncoming monkeys found it absolutely hilarious upon seeing a young sweating farang pushing his large bike through the water.

There's nothing like numerous semi-retarded simpleton monkeys laughing at you to your face to make things easier.

Why were you driving to the airport ?

Dropping someone off, or trying to leave your truck there ?

That route has been well publicised as one inundated. What on earth more did you need to tell you that driving it in the darkness was beyond stupidity?

Incidentally, in any sensible country no one would be permitted to drive not least because the road surface bearing the erosion and weight of the flood waters will be further damaged by such traffic.

Are there still people out there who do not think it will get worse before it gets better?

Driving in the dark resulted from being in a 3 hour bumper to bumper traffic jam you moron. Caused by a 6 lane highway mashed down into 3 gates open at the toll booth. And another thing, you dipshit, there is no current travel information on road conditions anywhere. Current meaning the report actually matches the road conditions. After driving here since 1984, I dont need your advice

I can well understand the reason for your defensiveness and do give you credit for the OP. Certainly, had I been so stupid I would not have wished to publicise the fact.

I wonder, just which bit of there are several billion litres of uncontrollable surface water progressing south through Bangkok at the rate of approximately half a mile per day did you not understand?

The consequences of this inundation surely do not require any further elaboration beyond the obvious and expecting hourly bulletins from officialdom to confirm you are sitting in 4 feet of water strikes me as somewhat otiose. Not planning for such a contingency in these circumstances, especially when night time is usually a forseeable event, just smacks of carelessness.

Hey jerk off, take a look at a map and tell me how far the motorway in Lam Lukka is from Bangkok.

The reason we post here is to inform others of our actual experiences. If you knew anything about Thailand you would probably understand actual experience by Teakdoor members are a valuable source of information, so much more than the thai news. If you don't like it crawl back in your hole

Thai Visa is the forum for you negative bitches to hang out at. You will fit in quite well there.

Yet more evidence of "positive reinforcement." Sorry, couldn't resist. At least I didn't call anyone a retard...I'm going to the airport now to check on the waves now. I hear the surf's up!

Some things/experiences are better left unshared in hostile environments. But thick skinned "he devils," never fear to travel into unknown territory. Oop's, shit! Glad I was wearing my hip boots.

My hearing is going, I'm sure its without slurping sounds. Girl-gling sounds more like choking not lapping it up.

Today had to replace the diesel fuel filter as that had filled with water, turning on the red dash annunciator. Drained all water from the cab with a wet/dry shop vac. Changed the oil. Good to go for the next round.

My drive today was not as bad as the OP's although it was real depressing.

Thought I'd try to see what Immigration in Ayuttaya looked like as I'm two months overdue in my 90 day reporting. The Asia Fwy - #32 is open now all the way from Ang Thong to Ayuttaya but the refugee camps along that fwy are numerous. Vehicles parked alongside too for high ground.

Driving into Ayuttaya proper, there's some congestion around the big traffic circle in the middle of town and lots of mud. One lane open only and only one side of the dual carrageway at that.

Dropping down onto the soi that Immigration building sits is a nightmare. Some water on the street and 12 ft tall banks of mud they've build as levees which didn't work a bit.

Immigration is half submerged by the Lop Buri River - the building is a right-off. No sign in front tho informing the Farang where they might have move to. Heh...love it!
