    Chiang-mai Bike week

Every December a few Motorcycle riders decide to get together up here in Chiang-mai for a few days. They call it Bike week but more like a bike week-end. Last night there was little part to get the weekend started.
Music, beer, girls and even a few motorcycles were on hand for ogling and fondling.

Guess these guys were layin' out the 'Rules' Dunno, wasn't paying much attention

    There were other things to occupy a fella's thoughts, you know;

There were the usual burnout contests
(thanks to our own Lady Hawk for payin attention we got a shot of this fool shreddin' his rear tire till it popped)

being congratulated on being an entertaining fuckin' fool:

When he sobers up I wonder what he'll be thinkin
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty -- T. Jefferson

This was just small, warmup get-together

But the weekend is all about the bikes; there were plenty on hand:
Nice ol' FH 80 well done up as a complete restore Sweet lookin ride:

never have really liked this style of scoot goin back to the 70s when Arlen Ness first started buildng them like this. they look cool in a show but as you can see they ain't made for ridin'

Now this is bike made for Jammin'

But there long ones, short ones, fat ones, skinny ones; All polished up and lookin' good.

Towards the end of the night there was another kind of Jammin' goin on...

I went home dreamin of jammin in a different style...

I wanna thank Lady Hawk for sharin' her pics with me and also loanin' me one of here chips.
many of the pics here are hers

    More to come

I like the look of the extended choppers but I don't think I would like to ride one a long distance.

Actually, Dog. Some of the more laid-back types are quite comfortable on long trips it's in traffic of around town they are fuckin shit.

These "Old School Arlen Ness Choppers" offer upright sitting position, with your hands in your lap. Arlen never was very tech savvy, just pretty good with pencil and paper. his bikes looked nice parked. Rarely saw 'em on long runs though.

Now raising the neck and extending the bars and adding a seat with a small back to it makes the thing an easy chair. The springer FEs actually work better than hydraulic forks at that angle. But with no damping they're like pogo sticks.

a few more frm the party Friday night.
I think it was one of the cleanest real road bikes there:

now this next bike is representative of so many of the customs there. They mostly come out of one shop and for some reason the shop has a tendency to remove the center tube between the engine and transmission. This center tube is major strengthening member and it is also why Hogs made such nice lookin scoots, no outer frame members in that region, making the area in there open adds very little to look of the scooter and takes a lot of the strength away. Not the martest thing to do in my estimation. Barring that the thing is nice to look at.

    Swoopy, ain't it?

3 inch belt drive, 300mm rear tire, makes you woinder what's hidin' inside them cases...

    for you inline four fans:

This bike just looks just like what it is...

Something that goes fast. No turns. Stop? Why? Just go.

Some attempts at being arty with the new camera:

    Is this man High??

    On what??
Did he share some with this fella?

Coupla dudes standing on the the trunk of their two-wheeled cars:

And my last picture, just a different angle on probably my favorite bike there. The one I would ride with on;ly minor alteration and if it was a condidtion I didn;t change it... Think it'd be OK:

    Things I'd change:
the bars these are what folks call "ape hangers" originally sold as Flanders #1 bars there is a lower version called, surprisingly, Flanders #2 they are about 6 - 8" lower but they are wide give good handling and ride position. Or maybe drag bars on four inch risers
change # 2, The pegs. move 'em back, just foward of the point between the tranny and the timing/cam cover.
AND TAKE THEM FUCKIN RAGS off the pipes! maybe bring the front exhaust down under the timing/cam cover get rid of some heat wrapped around your engine
Bigger oil bag too 3 quart just ain't enough. brushed aluminum instead of chromed steel.
    Bigger engine .

Bike week rolls around I usually stay hidden. There's something gets under your skin, something you just can't shake, maybe you can ignore it, but it eats at you and you find yourself straining to hear that last, distant, low roar as the last Vee-twin leaves you steppin' into your Hyundai, knowin' how it feels; in the cool of the evening with a sweet running scoot under your ass leavin' the party. Ridin'; just to ride.

The ol' lady wants a new sink. Me? I'm thinkin' a new set of S&S cases sittin' atop my book case oughta look real nice and keep me focused on what's important.

well, i would love to have been able to contribute to this thread but i dropped my bike about 40k's out of lampang with the mrs on the back. hit some wierd stuff mid corner, ran wide and eventually high sided but luckily had bled off most of the speed by then.

we're both in the local hospital now with screwed shoulders, some bark off and a cracked rib. hurtin' like hell.

    hope you buggers enjoyed it.....

How was the organisation this year ? I stopped going after the one in 2003 I think it was, bloody shambles was the nicest description. Pity because in previous years when the guy who owns the Porn ping had a hand in it, the event was great.

No body knew what was scheduled. No promotion or mention of bike show . The opening party was well done. But too many people had no idea what was scheduled (if, in fact, anything was). One of ther reasons I only got pics of hte party... Too scattered, not enough communication or publicity who runs this thing anyway? anybody?

Some of these bikes look great, especially the military style H.D. Really makes me yearn for one again, but as someone brought up on the older British bikes (mainly Velocettes and Vincents), have never managed to get on with a left foot gearchange. Does anyone have any sensible suggestions (realize that I am leaving myself wide open to some sniping), but really do fancy getting back on two wheels again.

Most bikes with right foot gear change have kits available to convert them to left foot but I don't think you will find anything to go the other way.

Get with the times! You would soon get used to it.

I'm coming along nicely thanks though I still have a large lump on top of my shoulder. The mrs is still in a lot of pain but I think she may be milking it. It's quite nice just sitting on the sofa all day with half the village at our beck and call.

Yes it was a disapointment over all as no one new what was going on but the ride up and the camping made up for it plus meeting up with some top people from other clubs that really looked after us well. And met some real dickheads as well anyone they beleives HD are the best motorcycle in the world has to be retarded yes they are nice but they aint the only bike in the world
I had that bloody paint show all rapped up then they foking canceled it because 3 bikes didnt show. The bike events didnt happen ether slow drag and shit. But bondy did us proud by taking out fisrt place the beer drinking comp
Bungs hi side was nasty but over all he and his lovely wife got off pretty lucky as I sore the whole thing and bung did well to keep the bike up after hitting a patch of gravel on the road. Hope you recover soon mate
Bondy also took a tumball on the way back managed to bruse his chest and take a heap of skin off his arms so now we call him CRASH BONDYCOOT now
    Pictures to follow

Bung should have put all that gear in the support truck, fork carrying all that stuff on a ride.
