Just curious, how easy is it to wind back a digital odo?
Impossible? Or just plug in a laptop and punch in any number you like?
I would be great if it was impossible, if not the locals would be having a field day with it....

Very easy to do, just need an EPROM reader/writer
The locals charge 500 baht, might be a bit more now
Common practice these days.
I figured as much, There was a couple of bikes I was looking at (thai owned), one had 900 odd klm's on it (2009 model) another 2000 odd, just seemed ridiculous. I'm also looking at a farang owned one, 18000 which seems about right.
I love the sales spin on these things.
They are only to be used after an accident or electrical fault has spoiled the recorded figure.
It's not tampering or fiddling, the correct expression is
"Odometer Mileage Correction Device"
The tires are usually the best way to tell. The rear tires seem to last about 15000 kilometers and the front about 40, and the factory always installs a matched set.
In any event, used bikes, cars or anything else are rarely a bargain here (like they can be at home), the Thais always want too much money for anything used. Buy new if you possibly can, you will not be sorry.
Well the farangs bike I'm looking at is a 2009 model, has 18000 k's on it, has about 30 000 worth of extras on it and is 50 000 less than new price. That's not bad.
Ha ha, I was wondering if that implication would come up!
I believe Bung's bike has an analogue odometer, so he's worn his drill out fixing that problem.
Non digital is easier if you disconnect the cable from the wheel or transmission, fix the cable end into a drill chuck, run it backwards for however long it takes to get your desired mileage.. National pastime it is.
So....just asking for a friend....what kind of Thai shop will do it for 500b ? Any ? All ? Anywhere ? on a car...toyota ?....I think its a toyota.
Used to write the original mileage on the back of the odometer.
It's digital.....I guess looking carefully at the screws holding the guages together would help but if it is that easy then all the Somchais are doing it.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
