I have a E30 in good condition, when I buy a new car I would consider putting a V8 in it. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to get a garage to fit the engine? Also it would need to have uprated suspension and brakes (drums on rear at the moment). The m40 engine in it has been rebuilt and is in very good condition, how much do you think you could get for that?

    Cheers

    Madjbs,

The basic installation (fabricating engine mounts, joining propshaft and wiring) should run around 20-25K (not including the engine), but then in addition to brakes you will need to replace the rear differential (the power of the V8 will shred the 318 diff in no time), suspension, exhaust (and possibly custom headers depending on clearances), bigger wheels and tyres and possibly a bigger radiator. Also, if you want a manual box it will increase costs considerably. I will be able to give you a better idea of costs once I get going. As far as the M40's value, I have no real idea. If you have a look at bmwsociety classifieds you will get some idea what people are asking, whether they're selling is anyones guess. If you trade it in against a V8 you will get a pittance. I have an excellent Volvo B230F with autobox I'm asking 10K for.

Thought I'd also take this opportunity to mention my V8 Hilux is up for sale, mainly because I could do with the space (and the money will come in handy for other projects). A link to the ad is posted below.

    How's the swap going

Have been following your engine swap into the little Bimmer from day one.
As I'm aware there are even two threads on it.
But info stopped coming when you found out that the firewall has to be moved.
    Any progress since then?

Also, I was stunned at the price of clutches - a second hand OS twin plate clutch is 25,000 baht up, so any suggestions are welcome as that is fckin ridiculous.

I also paid 20,000 for the R154 box, that is a good price by Thai standards - but still dear when you can buy a 4.0 V8 engine, gearbox, ECU and loom for the same price.

    Cheers

    looks familiar to me aswell

this is an old thread, but . . . .

    I have a 1UZFE (belt driven fan)
I find it extremely difficult to find any spare parts in the BKK area,
    anyone with advice?

Also, I am in need of a new ECU, or at least someone who can fix my ECU,
    it packed up last week.

(no, the mill is not in a car, its in a boat)
