Triumph opens second plant in Thailand

The Triumph Daytona 675 is just gorgeous...

Triumph have recently opened their second manufacturing facility there, and may even open a third one within the next one year! The new plant which is already operational, doubles the production capacity of Triumph in Thailand to 100,000 units per annum. Thai-made Triumph motorcycles are sold in that country, and also exported to other countries. India, one of the largest two-wheeler markets in the world, is close by and also has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Thailand. We wonder if Triumph will also set up a manufacturing unit

And still have to pay 'top' prices, as bits 'n pieces are shipped in and out of the country before it becomes a fully assembled Thriumph. When they start to sell for 'locally made' prices, I'll have one; The Tiger 1050....

They have a ruddy great warehouse or something just south of Swampy.

The plant is in Amata Industrial Estate visible from the Bangkok- Chonburi Motorway.

Was merely commenting on a post in the "what motorcycle did you first own" thread and some mod moved it to make a new thread.

I thought the info might be of interest to Triumph enthusiasts, thats all.

This is common knowledge now.
But the Triumph is definitely one of the best. Even surpassing Ducati in terms of production numbers. Currently homing in on BMW.
Won't be long before it will become Europe's number one bike manufacturer!

I think you will find that the Indian Bike is actually an "Enfield."

Although the Indians bought the complete production facility and shipped it out of UK, they could not buy the name with "Royal" in it due to its connection with the arms manufacturer.

WTF!? Grow up. Try reading my post again if you didn't understand it first time.

It is not my intent to get into a personal shit fight with you in this particular area of the forum. I posted the info about Triumphs in response to another post in that thread as I thought it may be of interest to some.

If you want to get into a debate about the technicalities of what is allowed in responding any particular thread, --- please take it somewhere else.

They certainly make nice bikes. I would love to get the Thunderbird.

What are the rules on buying enough spare parts to build a bike direct from the factory?

I know a friend of a friend that imported a Harley in bits and managed to get it registered in Nakhon Prathom recently.

Royal Enfield in India are producing classic style old English design bikes.
Very popular there I believe. And no doubt at a fraction of the price of Japanese big bikes.



Unfortunately the Indian bikes dont meet western emission or safety standards and need substantial upgrades before import is allowed. Still, you end up with a classic bike (with all the problems of classic bikes) for a fair bit less than a modern bike of the same capacity.

I emailed Enfield a couple of years ago about why i couldn't buy a Enfield in Thailand and they said they were looking for a dealer here. Anyone keen? I think they would be popular with both Thais and Farang. Need to be in BKK though.

My
Triumph was a "Trophy" 500cc. Can't recall the year of manufacture but I owned it for 3 or 4 years back in 1970-'74. We had a great time traveling the North and Central East coast of the States.

Years ago I was into sidecar racing and I had a Triumph 'Grand Prix' 500cc engine in it .
Basically it was a Trophy engine but the exhaust pipes came out of the head parallell and not 'splayed'.
I don't think they ever made a bike with it though and you bought the engines direct from the factory if you held an ACU competition license!.
They were actually an all alloy engine produced for Coventry Climax to power their portable fire pumps !!

Probably no better than a Tiger 100 or Trophy engine when it came to performance but they were lighter and with the pipes coming straight out you could tuck them underneath the engine.
As this was in the era when 'Kneelers' were starting to appear it saved a lot of burnt knees !

Anyone know the price range for the Triumph here?

Have a sales room along RCA, owned and managed by some really nice british raised (or at least educated) Thais. Sound lads. They have a red Daytona as in the OP for about 600,000 a bit cheaper than an R6. One of them owns a gray one too which is usually there. That's the only one we talked about in terms of price, they have about 20 different models there... all lovely looking.

If into nice bikes, and have a fair bit of dosh, it'd be worth popping along there.

Ta. They're definately nice looking bikes, figured that they'd be in that neighbourhood/price range though. Cost is too much for me to justify, looked at dismissed the R6 recently for same reason.

Can pick up a 2nd hand R6 for quite reasonable prices, if you can find one.

a 2001 R1 was only 200K on bahtsold not too long ago.



Saw a 5 yr old R6 for under that on there too.

You would think the price would be lower since they are made here and it cannot be blamed on import duties anymore. I would love to have one, but not if it costs more than my Yaris did.

It is rumored Britbike (Triumph dealer) will be the dealer for Royal Enfield bikes.
