    Honda "Dreams"

    What about some stories involving motorbikes...old ones, newer ones,beloved ones,hated ones,wrecked ones,stolen ones,great ones,weird ones .etc.
The 'Honda Dream' ,in my humble opinion, was perhaps one of the best multi purpose little 4 stroke bikes around. The rims were large enough that you could substitute the regular tires for a set of nice and knobby mountain bike style rubber!!! Sure..the tires cost a little more than the regular stuff...but going up into the mountains in the north it made a difference.
I'm sure there are some excellent motor cycle stories out there...love to hear some.
    Cheers

    "I have a Dream"

It's 29 years old, 100cc's of raw muscle, only 25,000 kms! Very pleasant little bike, runs very smooth and quiet. The brakes suck and the seat is torture for longer than 20 minutes.
I'd take it on longer trips with a better seat, uses ridiculously little fuel. something like 2.3 liters per 100kms. It's a keeper.

The original Honda Dream produced in the early 1960s.
    250cc fourstroke twin I believe.

Wow that is cool. Mrs. Kerr wants a new motorbike for the island we’re going to live on for the next few years. Something like that looks great.

I reckon I'm secure enough of my manhood not to let it bother me.

Though I'm not sure how a basket can be gay.
One of those eye and the beholder things perhaps.

Aging One had a Rebel. It felt heavy and gutless (when I was on it anyway) and I couldn't get it to go straight very easily (I had never ridden a bike before though).

The shopping basket on the Dream was standard equipment, and really handy as well.Using a bungy cord helped keep things from jumping out when you hit a bump or pothole.
The" Rebel" was only 250cc but was considered a bigger bike in its day, your right Marmite, it looked faster than it was!
The Honda "Wing" was the Thai workhorse for years, many of them fitted with a sidecar, flatdeck, foodstall, etc

I used to despatch ride on a 250 Honda Dream in London 1986. Bought it for 80 quid from a breakers had no mot, some sort of insurance and I thrashed it mercilessly for months and it never gave me any trouble except for flat tyres and rear shocks

This is the bike I am using, I admit its gayer than Liberaces Bedroom but it was free.
Its a much better bike than our Honda and amongst the "improvements" is a larger front rotor, improves the stopping 100 % addressing the problem of really puny brakes. The ones on that are on the Honda are wickedly undersized.
The aftermarket rear shock are a big improvement.
For a small scooter its almost perfect, rides and handles well enough, and 120 KMH but heavy on fuel tho.

    Nice bike.!! very aerodymanic looking
How did the cop manage to steal it?
Your all right about the Dream's puny brakes, especially when they were worn out.
I remember going down a few hills, one foot standing on the brake pedal and still not enough pressure to lock the tire...."squeak...squeak...squeak!"it would chirp and madly pumping the hand brake for the front tire ...even worse if you were dealing with rain and mud.On the flip side...decked out with some knobby mountain bike tires front and back,my Dream was able to climb hills and nasty mountain roads, not really fast mind you...get as far as you could in 2nd then slam that little clutch into first and give her gas... and she would lug herself up,sometimes helping a little with your feet. The motor could get quite hot,but in all the years never had a Dream motor die on me...not so with a little 2 stroke Yamaha and a really old 6 speed 125cc Suzuki Enduro...nice old beastie..when running...but the damn machine was cursed or something..

Well, I can imagine why it appeared gutless when you set on it (would have been the same with me).
