Thread: Cycling In Bangkok

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to buy a bicycle and equipment in Bangkok? I'd like something decent that will last but not too expensive. Also, does anyone know of any good sites with info about cycling in Thailand.

my personal preference was the cannondale shop, I found probike more expensive and the cannondale shop more personalized service but that's an opinion only.

also look up the hash house bikers for good places to go each month.

Saeng Thong Bikes and Parts, just up from the pier in Nonthaburi, carries mainly TREK, and is always significantly cheaper than PRO, who they seem to be connected to somehow. I just bought a TREK 4300 for 11,500; probably set you back 14,000 at PRO. They don't have much in the way of accessories at the moment.

Thanks everyone for your posts - will check out all of the above options. Trek at 11 500 could be good, that would be my very maximum budget. Wonder if looking second-hand would be sensible?

Get yourself on the Bike Hash mailing list - every now and then there will be someone leaving Thailand who wants to offload a bike or two.

I've heard that PRO sometimes sells off the Korean MBs they use as rentals and that they go for around 7000 Baht. I think the TREK at 11.5 is a better deal though. I've been riding my ass off (literally) and it seems like a great bike for the money.

If you are tallish and like a little power in your riding, you might want to ask them to change the stem for one with a flatter profile so the handlebars will be lower. It's going to cost me around 1500 to correct that now.
