One month on a scooter - hire recommendations?

I want to scooter around Thailand for month. How much does it cost to hire a bike? And i want to take it across the border so i need a place that hires without holding my passport. Was wondering if anyone offers a buy and trade-in deal rather than just hiring a bike...

What border would you like to take it across? I think you would have trouble enough bringing a scooter into Laos, Cambodia, or Burma, let alone one that wasn't even registered in your name. As for the rental, make a deal for long term, pay in advance and do not tell them you are taking it on a long trip.

To take a bike that isn't registered in your name out of the country you need a letter from the owner.
Check out the gt-rider forum for more detailed info about crossing the borders with Cambodia and Laos. Burma essentially isn't doable.

So you don't really want a scooter, but a proper motorbike?

    Are you an Aussie?

yes im an aussie - melbourne. i have a bolwell vs 125 (125cc) and it has plenty of storage and can take a pillion passenger, enough for touring in thailand coz I can travel pretty light. i guess i could put a container on the back at my own expense, but i'd rather get one with it already fitted.
