    NGV. The Pros & Cons

After dithering around for months I finally took the plunge last month and got my car converted to NGV.
All I can say is why didn't I get it done ages ago.

    On the pro side.
The car runs smoother than before and the cost per mile is much lower than I had anticipated. I have filled up six times and kept a log of mileage and fuel used.

    On the con side.
The car now has a 100kg tank in the boot which has slowed it down a bit.
I have also lost over half the boot space but there is still room for the weekly shopping.

So has anyone else here converted to NGV and are you as pleased with it ?

converted to LPG. lost of space vs gain in savings...but loss of power is very noticeable...regreting the conversion

Yes it can be with LPG and that is why I chose NGV instead.
I have little or no loss of power with NGV it is only the extra weight slowing it down a bit.

The mileage I am getting on NGV is way beyond my expectations.
Running on gasohol, I used to get 17kpl on a run and 14kpl in town.
Running on NGV, I get 21km/kg (mixed use, measured over 1200km)

The only real downside I can see is what to do about the fuel in the gasoline tank.
You really don't want to leave the ethanol blended fuel sitting there long term.
Which means having to fuelling the old Toyota's up with 100% benzine 95 which is getting pretty scarce.

Had 3 cars converted to LPG back in the 90's, and 2 being sedans the boot (trunk) space issue was a worry but the third car they actually cut the (petrol) fuel tank to 1/4 the size and installed the LPG tank in that space - giving me the full size boot to use. Fuel economy went down a bit but the massive price difference more than made up for any cost issues. I was told that if the car was 100% converted to LPG, as opposed to dual fuel, any power reduction would be eliminated since the engine could only be tuned to petrol or LPG, not both. In most cases the car was dual fuel so the engine was tuned to run "OK" on both petrol or LPG, not 100% tuned for either. Knew a guy who converted his car to "dedicated LPG" - no petrol, and it ran like a dream.
Not sure if NGV is the same, just my observations from back then.

The car automatically starts on petrol and then switches over to NGV.
That will ensure the gasohol doesn't sit there forever but as my petrol gauge has not moved for a month I guess I will have to use it up as I don't want it to be in there for more than 6 months.

Can someone please advise what the typical price for conversion to NGV is today. I have a Nissan Sunny that I'm seriously considering converting to NGV. I live in Suphanburi and would appreciate if anyone knows a reputable conversion dealer in the area. Even one in Bangkok metropolitan area would be appreciated. Thanks.

My conversion cost 49,990 baht and took one day to complete.
I know there are cheaper kits but I wanted a good quality multi point injection with guarantee. The price also included a 100 litre tank instead of the normal 85 litre one.

The work was inspected by someone from Bangkok and he gave me some paperwork to show to the Land Registry Office so that the car is registered as NGV powered and I get a 25% reduction in the annual road tax.

The running cost per kilometre is much lower than I had estimated.

The wife has LPG marmers, its been good. Toyota let her convert on her new Camry and keep the warranty intact. She got the doughnut tank so no spare tire but a full sized boot.

She prefers the LPG as you can go 450 kilometers without a fill up, I notice a perhaps 10% loss in both power and economy, but its 11 baht a litre as opposed to 35 on petrol.
