Call you a knob, wouldn't think of it, besides you are correct.
Most bikes are shipped in separate shipments, wheels, frame and engine in individual containers. That way they only pay duty as parts, if its imported as a complete bike, the resulting duty that should be payable is much higher.
Technically its illegal to assemble a bike from parts imported as spares but you can pay an assembly tax when you put them together, the wheels should be left off, then they can't nail you for assembling the bike. But the fvckers will just find something else to nail you on if they need to.

Peyton place are a Jap co specialising in W650 and SR parts
    Peyton Place Web Catalogue

They make a nice range of Dress up cafe racer style parts, I had a W 650 all decked out with PP stuff, period alloy tank and seat, fairing etc. Wished I hadn't sold it now.

I want whatever it was that passed me on the way into work this morning at warp speed.

Too fast for a positive ID that's for sure, Yamaha of some sort. R1 perhaps. All I know is it was moving very rapidly and excited my genitalia with the noise it made.

Well my 5' nothing mrs can get the tips of both feet on the ground! You must be a real short ass! (only joking) You can take a bit of foam out of the seat. It's 800mm seat height for us metrics.
No, I understand that bike frame style is supposed to ride at that height. I've just gotten used to the low slung, sloppy ride of a chopper.

Yes very droll, they sell new R1's in CM now at Charoen Motors, with books. Very expensive but I dont think you'll be allowed to buy one by her indoors anytime soon!

No, you're probably right. Not much point trying to deny it at this stage.

^ Why don't you buy one of those proper mini bikes.

Seen a few of the dirt bike ones that can fairly shift.

^ Seen few of those around CM recently too. Now one of those I might actually be able to pass off as a purchase for my boys.

Look like a lot of fun, not convinced it would be that practical though. Besides I'd undoubtably look like a right muppet, I was right at the limit of being too big for my VFR even.

    OK Here it is,

</IMG> Click to see more pictures MSN Autos takes an exclusive ride on the all-new Brammo Enertia electric motorcycle through the streets around Portland, Oregon. Photo: Bruce Whitaker

Green may be the new red, white & blue—but when you're talking wheels, how about fun? Or cool? The folks at Brammo Motorsports may be on to something. The Ashland, Oregon-based manufacturer—the same collection of motorheads responsible for bringing the road-rocket Ariel Atom to U.S. shores—have decided to confront the global-warming frenzy with an actual product.
A fun and efficient product. One that makes the similarly two-wheeled and battery-powered Segway look like an environmental pocket protector. It's called the Enertia, an electric motorcycle so slick it couldn't be cooler if it were frozen.

A friend of mine was offered to pre-order one over the phone by Norton.

He pre-ordered one of the new Commandos when they reintroduced them a few years back. He ended up upgrading to the top of the available range, the Domiracer. That bike came as race spec so he upgraded it again to be road legal spec with lights etc.

He ended up with something like £26K invested in this thing but was moving around a bit through work. He had moved to Oz but was in a live-in position in South Korea, so he told them just to keep a hold of the last one for him and see where he was at once the time came to discuss delivery.

A couple of years later he gets a call from Norton saying some guy is interested in his bike at a mark up price and would he be interested to talk to him. So he obliged. The guy's agent called him to ask if he would accept £40k for it. He said he would be tempted. The guy asked where the bike was registered and when he said it was still in the factory and unregistered the guy cut him off, called his boss then called him back immediately offering £60k for it. SOLD.

So they Norton were trying to get an idea of interest for the V4RR that was to be made in limited numbers and asked if he would be interested. He said he was, but when the time came he had just bought a house in Melbourne and they were looking for £40k a piece.
    Lang may yer lum reek...

All hand made, Nortons were never the cheapest and never volume and still aren't but its great to see them still being made and developed...long may it continue although the wobblies own it now and how long before its made in Delhi or Mumbai.

I had a come and go in the 80s and regret letting it go when family stuff got in the way.

My Old Man has an old Commando Interstate 850cc (828cc) here in Thailand all boxed up needing completely built. Would be great to get a start on it.

I think it was the '75 model. It was the first one to come with an electric start. He removed it immediately and sold it.

    Pic for illustration purposes.

How I'd love to have my GPZ750 or the GPZ900R to ride again. I did nearly 50,000 miles on mine before I had to trade it in for a car. God knows how I survived and yet I never dropped it...

Overly customed bikes are ok to look at , in the same way that ladyboys are. But you eventually have to turn away
