CMN, you keep looking at these SMALL bikes that are small crotch rockets. These bikes are not a joy to ride any real distance and this is all I was saying that was WRONG with your CBRF 400. I gather that you are doing a ride trip for tourist to do for your biz and I for one wouldn't want to do any long ride on something this small or shaped like this bike for a long haul. I think you can find some bigger more comfortable rides around for sale that wouldn't be too far outta your budget. I saw a Kawi 750 Eliminator on a Thai website some while back that was going for only 30K Baht. There's a Yamaha 750 down the road from me that is going cheap but you would have to restore it a bit. Hell, if I had some extra dough, I would pick it up for myself but I'm too busy with my 900 right now. Get bikes that people will be comfortable riding for more than an hour or two at one time. up2u, just my 2 bahts worth.

The previous owner of my bike was about 6.2 and about 100 kilos, he seemed to have no problem going to places like ChiangRai and Mae hong son on it.
    So I disagree.
    Again.

REmember back about 20+ years ago, My friend got himself a brand new ninja. Came over to my place proud as proud could be. Now I was used to 90+ extremely radical hogs all done up witn noweightium and unobtainium and nothing extra to slow me down, he's right proud, throws me the keys.
"boutthis time i'm thinkin' "FOOL!!! do you have any idea what i'm gonna do with this thing??"
I got all folded up nice 'n neat, took off on that tiny crotch rocket. Gotta tell ya, even though it was a itty bitty 600cc motor I had a helluva lot fun on the thing. The way she cut a line through my favorite esses and accelerated up to reline like there weren't no load atall, Nice bike. Nothing I'd personally buy, but 's long as he was willing to let me abuse the one he had I was lovin' it. Now, knees being a highly stressed moving part of a 6'2" frame, don't think i could get unfolded after gettin' on one for very long.
Bike like that up here in the hills, I kinda envy you the fun you're gonna have. Damn near every road leadin out of town is just endless twisties.
Now if they only made 'em in adult sizes...

peterpan, besides the user name you use, I would think those TEARDROP mirrors and all the extra chrome on your bike kinda puts you in catagory and if not that then the one would be you if you think that about Harley riders.

Stick with the F model - its is a lot comfier for you and your missus.

The CBR hardcore one is a fucker to ride.

Have a look into fitting some renthal bars and risere to get a street bike riding position.

Then let's see some pics of this VFR 800 and see how much bling or lack there of you have on your bike. I have an old Kawi 900 that I'm getting chrome work done on for 2 reasons, 1st, it looks better and 2nd, because it's less maintenence than polishing aluminium all the time. Ride what you wanna ride and don't go spouting BS about people that ride a certain bike. Do you think your friend is gay because he rides a chopper (choppah, your word)? How stupid is that?

I am planning on selling my CBR soon, I think if I was to buy another bike it would be a naked standard. Something like a Triumph Speed Triple or a Honda 919. An MV Brutal would be sweet but the price is also brutal. Other options would be a sport tourer like the VFR already mentioned or perhaps an adventure tourer like the BMW, KTM or Buell Ulysses (sp?).

Personally I would never buy a cruiser but if I did it would have a V4 engine like the magna and V-max.

PP, not much bling on that bike but then where would you put it. I guess the tank bag makes it easier on the back when leaning over all the time. More of a sports bike than cruiser. Nice bike but I'll still stick with the Eli 900 as it's more of a combo Sport/Cruiser. I'm just a nutter that doesn't really care what anyone rides, UP2U, just get pissed at people that slag on others. I just give CMN bs because I can't ride that style of bike anymore, it would just eat my knees and back up.

I used to own a VFR800, the model before they went to the VTECH engine. Very comfortable bike and I loved the nice burble you when you close the throttle quickly. Not like the full on semi backfire of a V-twin, just a nice V4 burble. Riding position is not nearly as aggressive as my CBR, though I would have preferred a slightly shorter reach to the bars.

    That is the Vtec VFR

Is the VTEC hit as bad as they say or is it just bike mag bullshit?

Not much bling (whatever that is) Just like winding people up, not slagging at all. I used to think the VTEC thing was just marketing hype but it does make a more flexible ride, not a big hit at all, just a machine gun like rattle when the VTEC comes in. Its quite addictive and I find winding out out into the VTEC band gives me a bit of a hard on. But the VFR is still a bit compromised on handling for me. So my new 05 GSXR 1000 should arrive within the next week and plan to take that on a trip down south next month. I am afraid that even at my advanced age (58) the allure of a top sports bike on good tires is still proving to be too much, so until I need help to mount a bike (or women) I will keep riding both, well past the time I should give up.

Unless you live in a rural area with very little traffic, motorbikes in Thailand are for chancers.

Had a few bikes over here. CB750F, VFR800, VTR1000 and 2 Waves - all Hondas. The CB is still in my town and still goin well with over 70k km's on her. The VFR, a great wheelie bike and one of the only bikes I know where you could more or less have a smoke doin' 200kmh. Big troubles with the engine sensors on it so got shot of that and got myself a Firestorm. Great bike too until it's sudden demise. Never mind, the Wave gets me around now, albeit a helluva lot slower!

I've been riding a 10 year old honda dream 100 for the past few days and love it for putting around town. Better than my 1 year old wave 125! Though I do like the disc brake on the newer one.

    I priced a new BMW GS1200 the other day.....A whopping 950,000 Baht!!
I'm starting to save now! What a beautiful machine!
