Buying a second hand dirt bike

As the tile states I’m in the market for a second hand two stroke dirt bike. I found one I like imported from Japan. It doesn’t have a title is that really a problem as I won’t be using it on the road at all?

    Any info is appreciated

I have a YZ250F imported from Japan. It has an import cert but it’ll never be road legal as no lights and no battery for that matter.

But no, it won’t cause you a problem. I ride mine from home to the mountains with all the gear on and to fill the gas.

I’m open to selling it btw. It’s not got the same power as the 2T option but it weighs the same.

Don't buy. Plenty of Jap imports fully legal for sale.

No title (green book) it will be confiscated at a police checkpoint. Could be stolen?

Having said that, if you only intend to use it on local property and not trailer it you should be ok.

Was kind of my thought Norts. Who is to say that the seller could be setting up the buyer. Buy it then claim it stolen.

I agree plenty of moto's with a green book and no worries. The other thing too, in the end our wives have to deal with any fallout.

You only need a tax invoice to import a non street legal bike.

You can’t get a green book for it and it’s not required.

Thanks for all the replies. I will inquire further tomorrow about what paperwork he has. Thanks for the offer DD but I’m set on a two stroke. I’m looking for a late model yz125x I’m only 150 pounds and it will be fun to rip around the farm or hit the mountains. There are other bikes for sale but this one is super clean and a 2018.

for a 2018 model I would say it must have the invoice from when it was imported.

    Otherwise it was smuggled.

You’ll have plenty fun on that. It’s 5kg lighter than mine and the good news is that I believe it has a feeder tank for the 2T oil so you just need to keep your fuel and oil tanks topped up and not need to worry about mixing.

Id love one too but for me it’s a lot of gear changing while trying to concentrate on the uphill terrain. No problem round your farm though.

I’d be amazed if it doesn’t have a tax document for a 4 year old import.

Send me a pm if you’d like to see my tax invoice for reference.
