    Thinking of buying a welder?

    Hi guys,
I am looking for recommendations, did a bit of stick welding when I was a kid along with acetylene brazing and cutting. But would like to hear from you because...well you all live here too and must know what's available best stick TIG MIG ??? I just want to maybe make /repair my gates build a bedframe some bike (bicycle) hangers outside and crashbars for my motorcycle. I've watched YouTube already and need to go back and do that again but would also like to hear from you guys.

    Thanks in advance!

I have a TIG/stick welder but wire feeding MIG is easier if you can stump up for the machine. Eyesight is key. If you wear glasses or are getting on a bit buy some magnifiers to fit into the mask.

Other than that it is just as you remember.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?

    FB,
I bought a stick welder here. It was a learning curve from my Tig welding days in the states. They are reasonably priced and what I did was bought some hunks of basic steel and played with settings. They obviously don't work on SST or AL but for Steel and Galvanized steel they work ok.

For Aluminium you generally need an AC welder.

I had done some mig welding in my youth and I was pretty good, so I bought a stick welder here in Thailand thinking how hard could it be. Either I am turning senile in my old age or it is a different ball game. I either did cold welds with little penetration, or would blow holes in my stock. Especially with all the thin wall squire tube stock we work with here for tables and gates. After a while I got good enough that my project held together, but it was not pretty.
I wish I had bought one of these gasless Mig welders Fondles is talking about. They might be a bit more expensive, but I think it's worth it. I wonder how easy it is to find a role of the proper wire here in Thailand.

We are in Khon Kaen near every big home improvement store, but about four years ago I had thought about this subject while reading a Thread at the other forum and at that time it was said that they are hard to find. I guess by now they must be more widely available. We are going away for a few months, but I will look into it when we return.

I fancy buying one just for the crack. They're only around 2,500 baht and I've never used one in my life but I'm up for giving it a go and doing a bunch of practice welds until I'm satisfied I could actually weld something if the situation arises. Then maybe find a project. My kid keeps asking for monkey bars, for example.

Famous last words: How hard can it be?

Plus it will make me look good in my new workshop that's mid-build right now.

plenty of welders on lazada of different types and prices , if you have used a welder before a bit of practice on waste steel is all you need, its like riding a bicycle you never forget how to do it and its not hard to teach yourself how to do it
