Electric Mustang 8.1 at 171mph qtr mile

Man o man. Technology. Gotta love it. I used to run 7.90s at 190 to 200mph with Turbo'd Small block Chevy but these cars are gonna be doing that and make no noise.

Too slow,. This 3.0 diesel did it in 7.62 seconds. And you could throw a 44 gallon drum of fuel in the back to drive from BKK to CM in one stint. LOL

^Didn't bring back any memories (sad emoji), of when I was 16 years old and went to Castlereagh drag strip for the first time just south of Richmond.
Best guess on the 1/4 times back then would be maybe 10 seconds.
    But.
What I do remember is how close we could get to the track, The rumbling of the engines and the shaking of ground as they went past, you could feel it in your feet and up your legs.

Don't worry. The washing machine engines are never going to take over the whole sport

I have the same memory from a F1 Powerboat race as the boats exited the pits and went under a small bridge. I could feel the bridge vibrate as they went under.
Also remember that as the boats, at speed, entered the hairpin turn at the pit end of the track was the only time I have heard a boat on overrun.

    That's the problem for me.

They (or similar) are the future though no doubting it.

I glanced something this morning that Canada have set 2035 as a deadline for banning the sale of anything non zero emission.

If you have ever been to a Nitro NHRA event and those Funny and top fuel cars hit that throttle it is an experience you will never forget. Feels like it sucks the air out of you.

That said though, I like the technology of Electric. I will admit it would be an interesting drag event with no noise.

^I'd never go to a drag meet with electric cars, couldn't give a fuck if they were running 3's it'd be boring after seeing the first few runs with no noise.

And yes I'll never forget the first time I heard a funny car at full noise, piloted by Roland Leong. Was only a kid but still remember that roar and the ground literally shaking as he went past where we were sitting at about the 150 meter mark with flames shooting out of the exhausts

Was watching some drags online the other day and there was some Tesla something-or-other that was destroying a bunch of super/hyper cars off the line.

Kept getting chopped at the top end though.

I just find it a false economy/climate, The batteries are toxic to the earth, especially if they short in an accident and catch fire, the power to charge them comes from electricity generation, they cant go far enough for a weekend away into the bush/wilderness, they cost massives of money to buy, they cant drive through a puddle if you are stuck in a flood, once the battery is dead, the car is worth scrap then that is enviromental old classic cars are worth repairing, The current power supply could not cope with all the charging ports, so build more power plants, and they sound shit too.

I would only go if it was a special class running. Would give me time to go buy a Tri Tip Sammie and an ice cold beer..

If the full event was electric that would be a big negatory. A good portion of watching those High HP gas or Nitro car events is how they plant all that power. Electric cars are boring in that regard

The exhaust is used for downforce. There's just no way an electric car is going to get into the 4 second bracket

Moron, do think top fuel dragsters and funny cars do a second run without refilling the petrol. Each post you make seems to suck just a little bit of intellect out of you.

Firstly you don't know that, secondly so what?

That's not the purpose of electric cars.

Double Moron, (how long does it take) compared to 5 gallons of meth through a funnel

I've got no doubt they will. The problems that exist with 10,000+ hp combustion engines don't apply to electric engines, and they've only been around a short while comparatively. So who knows what's possible with them yet till people really start concentrating on getting them to spin faster for the sole purpose of drag racing.

Plus they are absolute torque monsters so well suited for drag racing.

Scalextric cars will come out with a miniature version that runs on mains current and will go faster in scale...until it breaks if it's an exact copy of a Flord.
