Ford"s new Maverick hybrid pickup will get 40 mpg in the city and starts at $19,995

Ford"s new Maverick hybrid pickup will get 40 mpg in the city and starts at ,995-2a51707f-ada9-4e75-af2c-b5201c068ad7-fordmavrick_060221_es02

    Key Points

    • Ford unveiled the compact Maverick pickup Tuesday as the smallest vehicle in its highly profitable truck lineup.
    • It will be the first pickup truck in America with a standard gas-electric hybrid engine when it goes on sale this fall starting at just under $20,000.
    • Compact pickups are an untapped and unproven market in the U.S.

Apart for the typical American style bull nose (no offence intended) ... I like it. Both the concept and the styling.

Weird. Chevy, Datsun, Toyota, Mazda/Ford all made small trucks. I like small trucks, had a 1997 and 2004 Ford Ranger, also a Mazda pick up in 1981. Is compact different than small?

I was surprised to see the small trucks disappear in Thailand (I'm guessing 2010ish), other than the Suzuki swift and a couple oddballs. Mazda and Toyota both used to sell good small trucks there, and I thought they fit the demographic well. Economical trucks but still capable of hard work.

^ that's a pretty good price for a new pick up.

Horses for courses. When I first came here as a tourist I thought it was funny how nearly every pick-up was a small size. I kept expecting to see a few Silverado or "F" series maybe even a Dodgy Ram...but No fast forward to today never seen one. Same with big rigs. The only Kenworth I have seen is the one Cat use to haul their low bed. And the only Peterbilt (a red 357 from the 90's) which was going through Sak Lek about 2 years ago. Going by price what I can't figure is why MB and Volvo have a small market here despite their hefty prices....yet Freightliner, Kenworth and Peterbilt aren't in the market.

Mostly all European cabover design trucks here, made by Japanese. You'll have to go to Vietnam for a "conventional". But there are many Volvos here but yes mostly UD/Fuso/Hino etc.

Ford said the Maverick will come standard with a hybrid gas-electric powertrain that is expected to have 500 miles of range on a single tank of gas.

The hybrid vehicle is expected to achieve an EPA-estimated 40 mpg fuel economy in city driving, according to Ford.

The company declined to release total and highway fuel economy estimates.

Ford'''s new Maverick hybrid pickup starts at $19,995 and gets 40 mpg

Basically the 6 speed in the mustang but with a super low 1st gear thats good for like 11km/h.

I have a 6 speed in my ranger thats good for about 20km/h... be fucked if I'd wanting to be shifting earlier.

wank wank is what that 7 speed is.. but for a man child like yourself I expect it has you wanting to lick the bus windows.

Seppos are lazy pieces of shit, they buy auto's.

adding gears is all about fuel economy... 1st gear is in piece of shit is useless unless you are rock crawling.

Low ratio gears are very useful for ascending/descending muddy Thai tracks, with a fully loaded 4WD pickup.

Using brakes is not recommended, the wheels lock-up and just slide.

Agree 100% however the Bronco does not strike me as a vehicle that will be seeing too much serious off roading.

Why do urban ameristanis buy pickups, electric or fossil fuelled? I get many small businesses use them, but domestic users?
