    Electric scooter

Being on waiting list for hip replacement surgery - and during that waiting time wanting to be more movable - I have purchased an electric scooter, there are now plenty on market.

And it's not so bad, coming by courier within few days, after easy assembly (it's folding) and few hours charging, I can drive...

It's quite powerful, having 3 choices of power - they call it gears. While with the 3rd gear - selected by a pushbutton - can reach quite impressive force and speed.
Driven short drives the whole first week without additional charging.

One small problem: All instruction is in Chinese. However, not so difficult to get familiar with.

And once it came with 8" wheel - and not with 11" as advertised this type (there are many choices) - and not wanted to go thru the hassle to claim it and return - actually, it can be used for the given location - I decided to buy one more with the real 11" wheels, for another location, where I can go off-road.

And heureka, it came also within few days, and with real 11" wheels. it's more powerful and with more sophisticated control that's not so easy to learn and make use of, however, it can drive and for my purpose very good.

Both types have a remote control for locking to avoid stealing by wife...

I like this one Armstrong posted.

    Electric Bike in Thailand

While those look convenient those scooters have a very narrow handlebar width. Small wheel + narrow handlebar width = nose dive. To easy to spin that handle bar unless it has locks.

Just my 2 baht worth having ridden just about everything on 2 wheels.

Nice! Do you thing riding something like that is tempting fate when in need of a new hip?

I wonder how Armstrong is doing with his trike.

Loving it. Only go short distances on back roads but makes a trip to 7 a lot more enjoyable. Daughter sits on the front near the 'tank' and tootle along to the coffee shop.

Perhaps you have missed my point: I have organized for myself something what helps me in my current reduced moveability, for short distances, instead of limping around with two walking sticks.

And for an easy loading in a car (not necessary a pickup) when taking it with me for a trip, as last Sunday to see beautiful gardens. Such loading with not narrow handlebars would not be quite possible with a scooter of your liking.

Beside the fact that to get my poor leg over the seat would be quite painful, if ever possible...

Wow, that would feel pretty fast on that I reckon.

I did have a look at the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 here in UK for the school run with top speed of 25kmh, they are about 17,000 baht too, here and although it would mainly be canal side mileage, you can get 3 points on your licence

For those who too are frequenting with walking stick(s): a simple improvement (patent pending ) that avoids a usual problem how to keep the thing and not to let it drop:

    Electric scooter-img_0600a-jpg

The arrows show rubber bits with a sticking surface that helps to adhering, thus avoiding a slipping.

A rubber string under the handle can be pulled over the hand to keep the hand(s) free (e.g. for door opening)

I get it Klondyke. If it works for your current situation the more power to ya. My point was about the safety of those short wheelbase, small diameter tires and narrow handlebars. These deals have been all over the US in different styles for quite sometime and people take headers on them frequently. That front wheel catches a rock or stick at slow speeds and yanks the handlebars and down they go.

But I guess in your current state of affairs this is a viable solution to get around.

Best of luck on the hip replacement.
