    Electric Cars?

OK, They are cheap to run, WHY?
    Just answer some questions, ok.

1, The batteries they use, how much energy is put into converting the raw material into a batt
    ery?
2, How long do the batteries last.
3, What happens to the "waste" batteries?
4, Where does the power to charge these batteries come from?
5, If im stuck on a highway can i ask for a small charge up?(HOW LONG)
6, What type of toxins are released if a battery is "cracked".
7, If we are all using this tech without fossil fuel, what happens in the winter time? Half the country is in snow cover?.
8, How many trees do you need to cut down per 1kw of power per acre? (for solar/wind)
9, Of those acres you did not cut down, how susceptible to being damaged by normal weather conditions are they?
10, How do you ramp up the power in winter time?
11, What happens if there is a power outage?> is the state culpable for my pay because i can't get to work?
12, What about "Plastic" a petroleum by-product, if it's not a by-product anymore its a resource so it becomes expensive?
13 ^ Basically, if you are rich you will be fine, but the rest of us will have to fend for ourselves. we can sort the batteries.

You ask alot of questions that are IMO designed to show that EVs are not a good idea, and are the talking points of the Petrochemical industry.
It all depends on the final purchasing price including rebates. .
I recently looked to purchase a new car in the US. and I also considered the purchase of a plug in hybrid (PHEV ). The PHEV was about $10.000 more than the standard petrol model, so I did the math considering the amount of driving we do, the price of gas, and determined that it would take me 11 years to recoup the $10,000 initial investment, this does not include the opportunity lose of the $10k.
This course is based on todays gas prices, As gas increase then the time to recoup the premium decreases.
You also need to consider maintenance costs that are less on an EV.
In the final analysis it is not less expensive to operate an EV at this time. But there are other good reasons to purchase an EV.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

    2) the industry average at this point is 200,000 miles, but that is increasing and recently a Million mile battery was announced. It is important to note that these after their usefulness as EV batteries, these batteries still have enough charging capacity to be used for other purposes.

    3) these batteries are recycled or repurposed.

    4) where all power in a gas vehicle is generated from the burning of Hydrocarbons and thus polluting, not all electricity is generated from polluting sources. Further more the electricity that is generated from polluting sources, is not generated in major residential areas , where all gas from gas powered vehicles is burned at the point of use. So yes there still be some pollution from the generation of electricity for EVs but it will not be in major metropolitan areas where people live and breath.

    5) Range anxiety is a concern , but becoming less so as charging infrastructure develops and driving range increases. ,

    6) no different from motor oil change contaminants, antifreeze, led acid batteries etc.

    7) what technology?

    8) in the desert none, In a forest many

    9)??????

    10)with a shovel

    11) you will get as much money from the government. as you did when there was a gas shortage and you could not go to work.

    12) less plastics is a good thing

    13) not a question, but an opinion.

Fuck electric cars, what is your impression of the election and our new "real" president? I mean from a real "ozzie" point of view.

No one mentions this in most discussions. 1 gallon of motor fuel is equivalent to about 33.5 kWh of electricity. Or you can boil 200 kettles per gallon. OR 1 gal petrol will power a 24,000 BTU AC unit for about 4 days.

A 10 gallon tank (45l) is about 335kWh. Thailand has 37 million vehicles. That is a lot of terrawatts. Then figure out how many power stations to recharge each car for a day. Probably not enough power in Thailand?

While it is true that Electric Power Plants burn fuel and produce pollution, you must also remember that they are far more efficient than your average internal combustion car.

    Electric Cars?-diesel-efficiency-png

Most cars are about 25% efficient, while Combined Cycle Gas Turbines that are used to generate electricity are close to 50% efficient.

The oz govt is already talking about how to recoup the near 50 cents a litre it gets from petrol as a tax on electric cars. Tax is the governments opium.

Personally, I think that most manufacturers will adopt the Nio model.

Nio are a Chinese EV manufacture that allows you the option to purchase the car battery free. When your car needs charging, you have the choice to plug in or drive to a battery swap station where you park the car and an automated machine rips the old the battery out and replaces it with a fully charged one in minutes. This is not a pipe dream. Nio are the selling thousands of cars a month in the Chinese market.

Easier if you watch the video...

I know that Tesla tested that method. They dropped it for reasons I don't know. I guess too many compromises in car design, but I don't have the facts for an own opinion.

What I am missing is a city car with 100-200km range. Nobody is building them.

Prices will need to go down. Battery prices are on the way down. $25.000 for a battery car will be possible soon.

    I've never seen one.
The buses are electric. Nice and quiet. They seem to have the E.V. Thing sussed.
I wonder where president Biden stands on the issue.

    A hint……….

    Biden's emerging climate orbit

Former Secretary of State John Kerry will be his full-time special climate envoy.

Biden plans nominate former Fed chair Janet Yellen as his Treasury secretary.

Yellen is a founding member of Climate Leadership Council that pushes for a carbon tax.

One more Yellen thing: Like many economists, she has long advocated for imposing a price on carbon emissions as a principal climate policy tool.: What Biden'''s emerging Cabinet says about his climate priorities - Axios

Tone it down a bit and call it a user fee. Easier for some to swallow.

China has a good battery design. Cheaper raw materials, long life. Not as energy dense and lightweight, but very well suited for buses. Tesla uses them on some of their cars in China, too.
