Classic cars in the making and just damm expensive ones you have seen

Not to take away from Ant's classic ... https://teakdoor.com/members-only/18...ml#post4109086 ('Classic' Cars...)

Just a different take on what you've seen on the road.

In the Kingdom or from around the World.

Classic cars in the making and just damm expensive ones you have seen.

Only me in the car, so a crappy photo taken @ the Traffic Lights through my windscreen.

Sounded great though as he punched it ... as you would.

    Below, a professional showroom shot.

For anyone getting into potential classics as an investment I have two solid, sure-fire, absolutely can't miss tips: 1) go JDM; 2) randomly select a make / model cos your guess is as good as mine.

If you have a nice car, don't live or park your car in a car-crime hotspot!

A car is stolen every 12 minutes in Australia. One in every 400 cars in Australia is stolen.

Of course, other countries have car crime too.

At first glance I thought that was Thailand due to the taxi on the far left.

I do not know if a newer Ferrari really becomes a classic, they are made in such low quantities they are more about rare than classic (At least the newer ones IMHO). I would say something along the line of the newer Dodge Viper, Acura NSX, Camaro ZL1, Ford Shelby or Boss Mustang, Honda S2000.

    Yeah, they won't/don't.

The 288GTO/F40 etc up to the modern LaFerrari bloodline do (a million euros new and you're chosen by Ferrari to buy one), but out of the run of the mill Ferraris, really only the F355 has/will become a classic. The rest are just nice supercars.

Posted elsewhere. Falls into the category of 'just-damm-expensive' ...

I'm a bit suss of these new Mercedes and BMW's and stuff and I highly doubt any of the modern ones will become classics.

Yes the engineering and the engines are still top-notch and they are simply too complicated, overloaded with electronics, and those shitty plastics they use won't last the distance.

Mercedes and BMW are both mass market producers of cars. Both firms have suffered lean spells, when the range and content was badly affected by the power of accountants, who would employ someone to sharpen their pencils, but overlook the quality of steel, paint and plastics.
The problem with electronics is caused by high priced extras added as an afterthought. Top of the range inclusive parts, had a similar effect on Jaguar Range Rover products.
Mercedes saw the light, and they now produce greater quality, and fewer accountants. Too early to declare iconic classic status.
I have a good friend in UK who drives MB pre fuel injection and swears by them. He has come full circle from the ground up restoration of a custom 1960s Vauxhall.
When early Datsun Cherry reaches classic status, users will have a usable, every day classic.
I enjoy the nostalgia of TV shows set in the 1950s. UK and Australia produce some mouth watering car content, obviously drawing on the popularity of restoration projects, which seem plentiful.
The choice seems to be an early Citroen 2CV or a BMW 850 from the eighties. Same price, but who has the greater value?

I think the last generations of performance cars that aren't some abomination of hybrid electric will be sought after in years to come. Same goes for engine sizes as manufacturers drop CC's and add turbos (but still get way better performance and fuel efficiency) It's fully understandable why they do this of course, but as far as future collectables go I'd be banking on the value rising of the last model with a big-banger NA engine over the smaller capacity bi-turbo model that replaced it. I can't see anything electric being collectable in our lifetimes.

Maybe the 'firsts' like an original Prius or Tesla?

But yeah other than that neither can I.

Ford unveils 2021 Mustang Mach 1 as new global ‘pinnacle’ of pony car lineup

    2021 Mustang Mach 1

    Key Points
    • Ford is resurrecting the Mustang Mach 1 as the new global “pinnacle” of 5.0-liter V8 models for the famed pony car.
    • The automaker digitally unveiled the limited-edition car Tuesday.
    • Such “buzz” or “hype” models aren’t bestsellers but are considered important to attract attention to entire brands and vehicle lineups.

With success of the other recent buzz models such as Bullitt, now is a great time to bring back the legendary Mach 1 name to the pony car lineup after a 17-year hiatus,” Ford historian Ted Ryan said during a media briefing.
This 2021 model lives up to the legacy, setting a new standard for 5.0-liter Mustang track performance.

The 2021 Mustang Mach 1 – arriving next spring in the U.S. and Canada – features a more aggressive design, including a freshened front end and grille, as well as performance parts from the Shelby GT models.

The vehicle’s engine produces 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

“It’s going to pull you from the seat of your pants,” Jim Owens, head of Mustang marketing, said.

He referred to the car as the “pinnacle of 5.0-liter performance” for Mustang.

The car will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission.

A 10-speed automatic transmission also will be available.

If you are going to own some of these cars with 4+ Litre engines, now might be a good time to consider buying an oil well.

Because oil prices have still not recovered from record lows...

No, because a number of small producers went to the wall, regardless of the current prices, do keep up.

I think the AMG C43 Coupe is a potential future classic. Benz sort of snook it out, its got an interesting style and I doubt people will hang on to them as future classics.
