    Abandoned cars picture thread

Dieter Klein has travelled to remote corners of Europe and the US to find and photograph abandoned cars.
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUESThe German freelance photographer finds his subject matter in shabby backyards, dusty barns, deserted fields and thick forests.
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUESOn his travels, Klein has shot images of a dented Porsche, a faded Cadillac, a battered VW Beetle and a whole fleet of abandoned military Jeeps, among others.
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUESThe 160 images reveal the bygone glamour of the automobiles and classic cars - and the might of nature as it claims them.
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUESKlein began his search after discovering his first abandoned car by accident, while on a bicycle tour through France, near the city of Cognac.
"I felt the picture was like the illustration of a fairy tale," he says.
"I was immediately moved and thrilled. And then a long search began.
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUES"I view these scenes like a museum - I approach with respect.
"I might open or closed a door but usually I don't even touch the cars."
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUESThe oldest was a 1907 Ford Model T, in front of a small museum in a former mining town in Nevada.
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUES"It was a beautiful scene," Klein says.
"And since the weather changed, I got a lot of light situations and different camera angles.
"I have about 12 different views and moods of this car."
Image copyrightDIETER KLEIN / TENEUESBut his favourite was a 1960 pink Dodge, in north-east Montana.
"The owner, himself about 70 years old, told me the story," Klein says.
"His father had parked the car outside his house two days before he passed away.
"He has not used the property, the house and the car since 1977 and leaves this scene, as a memory, just as it is."
"I spent many hours there, taking pictures from different angles.
"After sunset, I got the reward - soft light that made the clouds a little pink.
"[It created] an almost surreal scene - strange, peaceful, calm and contradictory, a fairy tale."

    Those are some stunning pics.

Saw something similar recently, whole field of cars a hoarder had collected and let go to rust / waste.

    Spot on!

Defo a difference between collectors and hoarders and I'll never understand the mindset of the latter.

On the one hand they are their cars and it's nobodies business what they do with them but on the other what the actual fuck! Why not let someone else have a crack if you're just gonna let them waste away.

Crikey...I have never even heard of a Fuldamobil.

    From Wiki :

Braking was only provided on the front wheels, and was operated by cable. For cost reasons, shock absorbers were omitted, which did mean that with the body fitted, the prototype would wallow about like a ship at sea.The prototype was fitted with a 198cc air-cooled Zundapp motorcycle engine.

Me either but then you also don't know the difference between a standard manifold and turbo so no surprise there...

    Jeez, that's a 1950's Porsche 356, a decent one would be worth $250,000 easy.

they are all Vdubs really, in fact at least herbie went in a straight line when you floored it. I used to play with my BiLs 911 in the early 80s and that fuker would twitch its arse all over the place, was an oldie 76 S porch.

The 356 is the first production car Porsche ever made and pre-dates the first 911 by 13 years.

Yep , 911 back to 63 and those oldies are worth a bit now, even that 76. I love the banter on Top Gear on 911s and the ribbing about Porch designers being the laziest.

Bloke at work 10 years ago, his Mrs died they didn't get on well but they stuck it out for 30 years and he had life insurance on her as well as already being well off. The day after the funeral he went out an spunked a wad on a 911 and his smile was broad every morning he sailed in, i think he did unnatural things in his garage at night.

This one has a sense of mafia hit to it.

Did he check the trunk to see if Anthony Bonanzo Jnr was in there.
