Honda City - 10 year update.

Well, it was an extremely good purchase, imho...

Bought it 10 years ago in Jaransanitwong; cost about 650,000 baht new - the wife put down a third cash then I paid the finance over 5 years (not a lot per month).

Here's a couple of threads on buying the car:

It has been exceptional. The car has not skipped a beat in 10 years. The wife has smashed it up time after time, and the fully comprehensive insurance just keeps fixing it at Honda main dealers... We changed to LPG early on and this has caused zero problems with Honda servicing or engine issues, and it's really cheap running costs...

Just had a service: 5,500 baht. The servicing costs for the car have always been really reasonable.

It still looks and drives like new; ok it's low mileage, but folks have offered us 325,000 baht for it - 50% value after 10 years seems good... But, I see no reason to sell, the little thing just keeps going and is trouble free. Very cheap to run, reasonable drive, comfy little city car, easy to park for the missus and plods along at 140kph on the motorways all day long.

Just paid 11,000thb to have the aircon system replaced after some koont on here said to put coolant in it.

Month before that it was 20 odd K for a cooling system.

    A younger than 10 year old, non-Honda.

    Live and learn.

Well, when a once in a life time offer of a part-trade with a very, very cold Mazda comes along, you'd be best set to seriously consider it.

^ you've been mugged-off mate! Your bills are terrible... My first service was something like 740 baht, several other services were 1,000 baht or so. I presume this 10 year service is a big one hence the 5,500 baht, but that's still not much money for a service - imagine what they'd charge in the UK...

Looking through the original thread, I wasn't sure what to buy and actually much preferred a Ford Focus (at 200k more), but the Honda City has proven itself to be a good purchase. As a result, if I ever ended up in Thailand again, I'd buy another Honda...

So, who is driving it around?

(I'm making the assumption that you live with your Thai partner in Sth Korea?)

You should have ripped his arm off, its only worth around 230k .

I just sold the wifes 3 year old Mazda for 325k. Half price to what it was new. Only 45k on the clock too.

Wife used to have one back in the day.

Not bad little cars, hers even had those F1 type paddle shift things so you could pretend to be a race driver revving it out to 6,000 RPM whilst doing about 80km/h

She's had a Honda CRV now since forever. Also a good little vehicle, Honda do make good ones.

Had it from new but it's looking a bit sad and tired these days after copping a flogging from kids and school runs and stuff. Still does the job though so might keep it... and buy myself another car.
