If it was me....and I've done this several times in the past....

Get jug of the green stuff and pour it in, then top it off with water. Water is cheap, the antifreeze isn't, however tracing a leak is a bitch if you can't see where it's dripping from and the green dye helps.

Start the car, let it run till you see the green stuff leaking while consuming beers. Trace the leak. The green dye will help make it easier.

If the leak is coming from a hose (there's an inny and outy rubber hoses to the radiator, plus for the automatic transmission if you have one....those will be copper tubes). If it's the top hose, you're in business, just let the engine cool then replace the hose. If it's the bottom hose, you should take it to a shop because when the pull the bottom hose the engine and radiator will drain of the coolant, creating a huge mess if you ain't prepared for a few gallons of liquid all over the place.

Another culprit could be a leaky water pump. Again, that's a shop fix unless you've got a good set of tools and can figure out how to put the belt(s) back on.

    Enjoy!

    Fookin' coolant.

Does it really have to be so fookin' difficult.

Can't they just have one bottle.

    One cap.

    Open cap.

    Empty contents in until full.

    Done.

when you ask for advice from members of a forum, most of whose members dont know their arseholes from their elbows, then yes, it's difficult.

if you had let a half decent mechanic look at the car, then no its not difficult.

    light switches?

    I'm just curious....

Once upon a time, it was that way.....

The bottle gives the coolant space to expand and contract into as the coolant temperature changes. It's also not under pressure like the radiator is when hot, which makes it safer to add coolant if needed.

Faaark me, you'd pay a mechanic to replace your coolant?

    They'd love you.

if there was a leak from the cooling system that i could not identify and repair myself then of course i would.

if you had appendicitis would you treat yourself or would you seek out someone with the knowledge to do it properly.

Going by Luigi's ineptitude in car plumping, I hope he has a better understanding of a womans plumbing.

If you are worried about the coolant, just fill the radiator and then the expansion bottle up to the max line with the water hose.
Then start the girls car and check for leaks, wait till it gets to normal temp then turn off, check later.
If all good, drive to a garage, get them to drain then refill with coolant.

Actually, when in Thailand, the coolant is a simple water. If you are afraid of corrosion then use a distil water. However, even that is not really necessary, the cooling radiator is by brass and connections by rubber parts.

If however the water level is frequently dropping, and the leakage is not apparent under the car, there is a possibility of a leak inside the engine block, either into the oil, or into the exhaust (vapors could be seen at the exhaust pipe).

Mostly, exchange of the gasket under the engine head will help.

That actually works, u out will find the hole as the poached eggs will oozes out of the hole. Then stick at bit of blue tack on the hole, disguised with oil.

    Jobs a good in
