Just checked my Toyota manual and it doesn't give any info as to when a coolant change is required or any instructions on how to do one. Can I take it that there is no specific mileage that one should be carried out at? If at all?

Due for a 10k service in around a month - full fluids drained etc.
If it holds til then it's all good.
So the question now, dilute or not to dilute?
There's no mention of it or anything about it on the bottles.
Sorry LD, but calling BS on that.
I had a pinhole leak in my expansion tank.
Constant stop start driving, we were doing a wine tour, was enough to empty the car's system of cooling liquid.
The cap was fine and no leaks on the ground.
Heated coolant ... which hits the expansion tank with a hole in it, turns to steam as the pressure is released and no 'leaks on the ground'.
Coming soon, the How much is a fair price for a new Mazda 2 engine thread
Coolant?
Is that like non-alcohol beer for girls?
If Luigi, and I say if ... you happen to 'boil the thing dry' as in run the coolant out of the system.
Two things NOT to do.
1/ Don't remove the radiator cap ... but the expansion cap is fine to remove.
2/ Don't pour liquid into the radiator for about 30 mins. They can and do violently sort of 'explode' as you remove the pressure on the radiator tank and the super-heater coolant expands and blows out.
2A/ The sudden cooling of different metals (iron engine block and alloy head) can distort/warp the engine because the co-efficient of expansion of the different metals.
If there are no instructions to dilute, then you just use out of the bottle.
As mentioned, to avoid internal Aluminium corrosion damage, do NOT mix different brands of coolant.
Best to just top it up with plain water while enjoying 2-3 Steinlagers, which I understand are on special ATM.

Hey Lu,
Do not dilute. Just fill back to level on expansion tank. Ideally what you want the shop to do is conduct a pressure test on your system. Could be a cap issue allowing it to escape under pressure.
Newer cars now run straight Antifreeze. The old days of diluting are long gone and most radiators now are plastic or have plastic ends and aluminum fins and are much smaller as the cooling efficiency has improved dramatically
As for brand mixing. If the one you purchased is 100 ethylene glycol then all good. If you have an owners manual it will tell you what to add and to what spec.
I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just have it pressure tested at next service. Sometimes plastic expansion tanks will crack at the hose. It's common
Cheers
Done.
Reservoir took 1 bottle up to the fill line.
Radiator took 1.5 bottles up to the top.
Will check in the morning, use it for the school run and check again after having cooled down, and will keep an eye on it.
Cheers.
That's a reasonable amount to add Lu. That small car has a very small capacity so adding a bunch is more likely a leak somewhere. A pressure test will sus that out quickly.
I could get into more details on anti freeze loss but those are a deeper diagnosis after a pressure test and expansion tank inspection had taken place.
Good Luck
Mazda 2? jesus, that's like the mother of hairdresser cars

Mine will get changed at 10 years.
https://www.integrityautoinc.com/antifreeze/In 2004 Toyota and Lexus came out with their pink super-long-life coolant. This is what we use for these vehicles. Their recommendation on this coolant is that it be replaced the first time at ten years or 100k miles. Their recommendation thereafter is that it be replaced every 5 years or 50k miles.
If someone wants advice about curtain rails they can ask you. Leave the car talk foe the men-folk aye.Originally Posted by Latindancer

Red coolant is not the same.
I have red coolant and i am not supposed to top up with green.
