Cardboard and filler liberally covered in underseal to hide any rust holes in the chassis before selling it on to an unaware punter

Last time I was in Bangkok, I observed the work done at a car detailing shop, absolutely magnificent.

Having detailed and painted many cars this is what I use. I brought a bunch over from the States. These are hand application and removal products being they are final. There are numerous others that start at rubbing compound then # 2, #4, etc. The Meguiars products purchased here are not the same. Make sure they say Made in the USA

Outstanding for removing light scratches, road tar, swirls and oxidation.

This wax is really nice as it applies virtually clear so if you hit your black window trims or other black accents you do not see it. Many waxes hit black and immediately leave them white stained.

I actually just bought some yesterday as I want to test the claims before endorsing them on them forum.

So, just hours ago I waxed the car and was tempted to try some of the furniture polish, but not on the tyres.

I applied to the rubber molding around the rear 1/4 glass, the rubber on the outside of the door where the window and the car door meet, inside the felt channel which guides the window glass up (which used to stick a little) and the blackened 'B' Pillars.

Initially, all look great, but it's the test of time over the next month which will prove it's worth, or not.

    ---

What I can say is the the window now slides much more easily, so a good start.

    ---

I just had my car serviced and the blackened the tyers, so I can't test it on them yet.

I have always wondered - why is it called "detailing" a car?

    Why not?

You could have wiped them with wd40 also?

I'm thinking the best tip in Thailand is to not worry about the price 500B and chose a good place.

I would venture to guess it is because you are cleaning the vehicle with great focus on detail or something to that point. Most just wash and maybe vacuum. Detailing is interior treatment, carpet cleaning, clean the trunk, clean all the glass inside and out, full wax, touch up paint chips, power wash under the vehicle, paint underneath, dress tires, polish wheels etc.

Meguiars is generally shit and mostly used by hot rodders who don't have a clue (sorry JP). That said the idea of using pledge on wheels is a giant *shutter* as well. As someone who in a past life prepped cars for the Pebble Beach concours show I only use products by my former employer. Been a good while since I worked there but am still friends with a few of the guys from back in those days.

    https://www.griotsgarage.com/

I was with them when they were just growing and got to hobnob with some of the wealthiest car collectors in the PNW and trust me there are many here as retired Microsoft millionaires like to spend time in their garages.

Sorry Snubs. You don't know shit. Meguiars professional waxes and buffing compounds are used by tons of shops. The commercial products are all made by 3M as is Meguiars. Just go to any commercial paint shop and you would know. I have painted and detailed hundreds of cars.

That said I have never seen or heard of the product you referenced. It may be good.

Umm I do know my shit. I have seen Griots best of shine next to Meguiars time and again. It is not even a close comparison. The first thing we did was strip off that shit.

Umm ok. Nobody uses 3M polishes anymore. Maybe a few ghetto body shops but most high end discerning car owners would never let that shit any where close to their cars.

Good you made my point. Most commercial paint shops are hacks and do shit work. It is not 1985 anymore their are far superior products then 3m and Meguiars FFS.

Like I said for the peasants. Corvette owners and hot rodders. I guess I see what click you belong too.

If it was done in the 80's 3M would be outta business. Do you paint and detail cars Snubs? Have you? When was the last time? I was doing up through the late 2000's. Doubt they all stopped because you found one off market brand that out performs in one area?

Not gonna argue it with Ya Snubs. Not worth my time and do not want to derail the thread, We can agree to disagree. I am glad you found a superior product. BTW, I am not a corvette type, never was although I do appreciate the 63 split window fuelie or 67 427 for what they were in automobile history. I will say the new mid engine Corvette looks pretty interesting.

I prefer the Acura NSX, Nissan GTR or the Subaru WRX 3.0. .

Brand is less important than proper application.

Umm no. 3M is a multinational corp. They do not need detailing as a business do they JP?

I did. But I did not fuck with dumb corvette and muscle car owners.

It was a longtime but I still know what it best. I will beat your ass in a hand to hand detail contest.
