Justice Ministry deputy permanent secretary Tawatchai Thaikyo on Monday urged police to take action against the parents of a 13-year-old boy whose foot was torn off in a crash on the “big bike” motorcycle they bought him.

The July 6 accident in northern Chiang Mai province was caught on video that went viral and drew the ire of social-media users.

Tawatchai said the parents’ purchase of the high-powered motorbike for their son could be regarded as a violation of the Child Protection Act, since they were in effect inducing him to behave riskily.[at]

Criminal charges, if laid, should not be regarded as compounding the family’s agony, he said, but rather serve as a caution to others. Parents must not put their children in harm’s way, he said.

Tawatchai said the boy also had to be held accountable because he caused the accident in which other people were also injured, on top of riding a motorcycle while underage.

People must be over 18 to obtain a driving licence for a motorcycle with an engine above 110cc. For engines under that capacity, a 15-year-old can get a licence.

The boy in this case, whose name has not been released, was allegedly driving his ZX10RR 1,000cc motorcycle at high speed in front of Sri Arun Plaza Market in Chiang Mai’s San Khamphaeng district.

Yeah man, Technology and safety gear is top stuff nowadays. The Bohn products are top flight. I wear them every time I get on the either Moto. Its comfortable to wear. Even my helmet is comfortable with the air circulation and weight. If the gear offers good protection and is comfortable to wear, people will wear it. If its not then they won't.

That said, nothing is as good as full on leather set when riding but in Thailand its not practical to wear. I wore my Dainese set up in the states but did not bring it here as there was no way I was gonna toss myself into full leathers to go ride.

If you are a motorcycle rider reading or hearing of accidents is always concerning but one has to take into account the circumstances around what happened. The greater majority of accidents are caused by the rider. Its usually either attitude/behavior coupled with rider skill set. In the states the issue is there are no limits on CC you can purchase and in America we LOVE our power. So you get an 18 year old that buys his first moto and its a Hayabusa, ZX10, YZF-R1 with 200+ HP at the rear wheels and you turn him loose. The 13 year old riding a Big liter bike is stupid. That is a parenting issue.

Most GP style bikes are painted to follow the colors they use racing. While I do not find the colors bad on most that clearly is personal preference. But the brighter the better when riding. I would never want to ride a black or dark blue moto.

Actually that carpet was brought from the US when we moved here and we tossed it in the laundry room where the moto is now. But she laughed when I put it there but had no issue with it.

No its only 399cc. It looks bigger then it is. Here in Thailand they call it a big bike likely because they compare it to a Honda Wave.

Actually that's a myth about red paint. Its how our eyes see the color spectrum. All colors fade at the same rate. White however has no pigment so its not as noticeable to the eye giving off the perception that red/black and blue fade or oxidize quicker. But they can "appear" worse looking. Paint constituents will change the rate of fade i.e. Metallic versus Laquer etc. Of course you can keep a nice luster to paint with proper waxing.

I think he has a point, I've had a couple of non metallic reds and no amount of t-cut and polish would bring the lustre back.

They were old bangers that werent looked after though

Actually I if I am not mistaken most of the motorcycle accidents in the states are older Harley riders. They in many cases did not ride throughout their entire adult lives then decide they want to ride a Harley.

A lot are or were, especially about 10+ years ago when Harley's hit an all time "Status Symbol" high and was a HUGE fad and older office exec types were buying them up. Most wrecked or sold them since.

Same thing happened when Honda brought out the 600 super sport and then the 900 blade; 40 YO blokes who'd stopped riding in their 20s on ancient 4Cy 4s got on these new 4s and started investigating the solidity of walls head first thinking they were able to ride like Barry Sheen.

I was doing the same as a 20 year old. I had ridden dirt bikes as a kid so was very cocky when I got my CBR 600 riding wheelies and trying to pretend I was Wayne Rainey. I often wonder if the asshole who swung the piece of firewood at me causing my accident didn't perhaps save me from a far worse perhaps fatal accident as at that age I just had no fear whatsoever.

The next bike I got years later I was much more respectful of its power for sure.

Fab'd me up a GoPro Hero 7 mount last time home and took a little blaze through the area to test it out.

One thing I immediately noticed when watching the clip is how much the RVF's fairing moves around while the video stability was near perfect. Gotta love technology. I have a few other places I will look at mounting the camera and do a loop ride up towards CM area next time. This was just to do a camera test and and get some seat time on the moto with the new rubber. I can't wait to get to the mountains. The V4 motor is so much nicer and fun compared to the R3 twin.

I have decided to sell the R3 as its likely I will not be riding it again.

I enjoyed the acceleration you gave the bike at times, JP. Took me back a few years.

Well looks like I will be looking for a new bike when I get back to Oz. My son has written my Suzy off. Fortunately he escaped with a few scrapes and bruises as he rides with good safety gear. Think I might get off the sports bike and get a cruiser as I want to visit a few friends interstate which in Oz generally means a lot of Kilometres.
Any cruiser suggestions welcome. They all have their pros and cons but at the moment the Yamaha 1600cc Roadstar is looking the goods for comfort and reliability. I still will use it locally otherwise it would be the Goldwing.

Had some time to get drop by the Tyga factory and meet the owners. Really nice group of folks. I ordered my full system for the RVF. Hope to install over the next few days. Very well made set up. Super light. Will drop about 8lbs off the bike from the factory set up and add about 6 to 10hp once I re jet the carbs.

Not my cup of tea at all, saving grace it's a V4, instead of an in line 4.
However, it does seem in exceptional condition, so congrats.
Did i say i hate in line 4's?
And pretty much anything that needs 5 figures to make power?
Thai guy i exchange our cooking gas bottles with has one, a rare legit one like yours, got some pipe on it, does sound very good just off idle, but he does not get why i hate the things revving their tits out at 12k rpm. Hideous.
    All bhp, no torque.

    @ TG,
Understand your POV. Like me, The early Tq monster singles and twins are not my cup of tea either. Annoying loud all the time. Not fun for carving up canyons. Great for upright riding on big open roads with feet out front.

    All good.

No. i don't do the feet out front bit.
    Anymore.
The older i get, the more my feet get further behind my arse.
I can do the carving up canyons all week long.
But it will be on a twin.
    A loud twin preferably.
Anything from an XSR700 with a pipe on it, to an 1100 Monster, and most, but not all everything in between.

    All good.
