Beware who drives your car!!!! and speed cameras in general....

So been ignoring speed camera fines have we?
In reading lots of general recent information I noticed plans being instituted 1st October 2019 that could cause many pain!!!
It was mentioned that 80% of the fines sent to vehicle owners from the many installed fixed cameras monitoring speed on various highways and main roads have been ignored. A newly discovered money tree for the government in Thailand to nurture and grow!

From October AUTOMATICALLY .... DUE TO COMPUTER LINKING WITH THE ROAD TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT Computer network..... all vehicles with unpaid fines will be rejected from registration renewal until outstanding fines have been paid. Food for thought on who gets to drive your car into town at 100km per hour through the 50km per hour camera!!!

How many cars with rear number plate missing do you see? Too many. Latest practice seems to be to sand off the black lettering/number. Or paint it white. Only way to combat that is hands on road blocks.

I have only gotten tickets with a photo showing the front of the car

and for about the last year I have gotten none which I attribute to the front plate being basically all white now and cameras that do not work anymore

but I had heard the other day that you can be fined for number plates that are unreadable

We Got a fine in the mail about 4 months after we transferred the registration of a 2nd hand car we bought from Bangkok to our province,We transferred the rego into our province within about 2 weeks of bringing it home and that included handing the old BKK plates in.
The photo included was an obviously different car, Same make and model but different colour scheme, The wife took the paperwork to the local police, He said to her "This looks like it might be corruption"., He called her the next day and said "Don't worry about it, the fine is gone".
To me , our inquisitive little local cop was told to shut the fuck up.
I think they used to sell the old plates,

fitting a clear plastic cover on you front license is supposed to stop the camera from recording the license number
i fitted one to my pickup after being fined for doing 93 kph at the north of phuket just after the checkpoint when entering theisland
they seem to change the speed limit signs every 100 metres in some places

Yeah that is a myth, It doesn't work unless completely dark tinted which would get you nabbed at a check point anyway. Now I have seen a sneaky few who rub the black off on the numbering making it looked extremely aged. Some just enough to make make a number look different. I asked my wife about it. I got the Thai smirk and look.

If you want to speed (which I do because there is no way I am going to do 90km) the best approach is to understand where they would mount the camera locations. I see many little camera signs with red on them on posts on the left hand side and those are not real. They have just put them up or they are very old and never removed. The fact is, I have found that most are only on walkovers, crossovers and signs over the Hiways. The reason being they need power to run the cameras and that's the only place power would cross over. They usually put up a camera warning sign a few KMs before that and you just slow down then after it go back to the speed you prefer. I typically go 130 to 135 on AH1 from BKK to Lampang. I pretty much know where all the cameras are albeit the Chai Nat guys are getting clever.

yes - the front number plate on the car had its black wear off naturally and I was not getting any tickets for over a year - finally got a fine and told to replace the number plate

I get a few speeding tickets a month, no issues at all renewing road tax.

This linking this has been mentioned every other year..

As for covering numberplates.. Yep my old Maz 3, never got a ticket in the mail and it was driven real hard past fixed camera's on the 7 motorway.

I got flashed around New Year on the Phuket Bridge, then again on the way home just before the bridge. Never got a ticket through the door.

Our plates were faded white for years too. We were told to sort it many times but nothing official. Eventually the Mrs went and got the changed, the daft cow.

Apparently if you paint them with clear, acrylic based nail varnish that foils most speed cameras. Just sayin' like, but you shouldn't speed because it is against the law.

I saw that one busted before too. They just change the brightness or inver the colours or something like that and it comes up clearer than normal.

They did go to the trouble of vehemently denying it works over here, and furthermore declaring that you are strictly not allowed to do it. You decide- they say proper painters always do two coats.

So is the unprovoked invasion of sovereign countries, but that doesn’t seem to bother you much.

What makes you think that? I was probably the sternest critic on this forum of the invasion of Iraq.

Finally heading back to Thailand next week, and will have to get the car and bikes out of the shed, new batteries roadworthies and back pay the rego's.... Two weeks ago got unwanted mail from the South Australian Government ..... (I accidentally renewed the wrong vehicle rego in their online app) Fine for OWNING an unregistered vehicle ...taken by an overhead highway speed cam... $540Aus! (about 13,500 Baht!) so looking forward to driving back in Thailand.

How have the speed camera fines worked out in the last 3 years in Thailand...Have you had one? ...... did you pay?.... How much?

I've never had one in almost 2 decades of driving here.

I've driven past plenty of signs that say there are allegedly speed cameras on that section of the road and I've driven past a few flashing signs that have told me I have been driving at various speeds. All of those flashing signs were incorrect, either way too fast or way too slow.

Maybe bc you drive within the acceptable limit ? Which is sometimes higher than the posted speed
