    Motorcycle dashcam!

I put a GoPro on my helmet. I had a wreck a couple of years ago and can't for the life of me remembered what happened. So, I got this setup hoping to never need it that kind of situation again, but better to have than not. Gives my missus a bit of peace of mind. I might start doing some motovlogging if I can get all the correct kit. Downsides - battery life but can be easily sorted with extras and the size of the files each 8:51 clip is a masssive 3 +GB!!! Anyone else have a similar setup?

Hey FB. I have numerous locations I mount my GoPro on my moto. I do not mount on my helmet because I found I look around too much creating lots of vid clean up. I see you have the GoPro 7. Great stability

    You riding street or dirt?

Riding street only. I have a Honda Transalp that isn't running at the mo and a Harley Dyna 'Street bob'. What software do you use for editing your Go Pro footage?
I just scroll through the clips then delete almost all of it. I'm still trying to get to know how best to use it.

The GoPro Studio is a good place to start. I use Power Director.

I have been messin around with locations and camera settings on my moto for awhile now. One thing really nice about GoPro is you can virtually mount it anywhere and give it a try. I highly recommend you get the wireless remote. I use the Remo (Lazada sells them). The Remo makes it all super easy as you can start and stop vid recording without having to stop and turn the camera on and off all the time. As you know there are lots of places that the ride might be boring or uneventful so why waste battery life and MicroSD space. I have also set up a remote micro phone so I can talk during my vid or mount it on the moto for sound effects. You can also add a powerbank to the GoPro for extended recording time.

Fire away with any questions, I'd be glad to help.

The thing with a helmet mounted camera in the event of an accident is it may show you that you were not looking where you should have been looking and/or you were target fixating and hit what you were looking at.

^ Exactly VN. Its best to mount the GoPro on the moto. Like I had mentioned I have mounted my GoPro all over my moto for fun. Got some really cool unexpected vids. I tried a helmet mount and found that as one rides they do it defensively and are always looking around but in the event of a wreck that could be perceived you were not paying attention to the road.

That's when you hide the cam before the cops turn up. The hope is then that they believe you as to what happened.

I will try different locations on the bike and see how I like them, but honestly, I really don't have many opportunities to be looking around almost all of my riding is in urban traffic i.e. lane splitting. Valid points been given and will give some more thought to it.
I would like to, sometime in the future, have a second camera facing rearwards with a heads up display mounted somehow on a front fairing. Not entirely sure if it's even possible but it's just an idea right now.

Just thought I'd post a clip, here's an unedited segment of a ride going into the city. You can see how much my bars are moving up and down but how steady the view is in comparison.

I still haven't moved the camera but I will!

Never a dull moment splitting lanes FB. I used to ride in BKK on my NSR150. No need for a cup of coffee.

I really like my Hero 7. Such a significant upgrade from my Hero 5 in regards to stability.

Later if you want to get fancy you can mount on your moto and add an external mic.

    Be safe

Btw What moto do you ride?

I had a GoPro Hero 5 up until yesterday....

Last weekend we were at the beach and it stopped working. I thought maybe the battery was flat so I went up onto the sand to change the battery.
When I opened the battery compartment, a lot of sea water came out.

I tried rinsing it in fresh water and burying it in a bag of rice for a few days, but its still stuffed.

The camera is about 2 1/2 years old so I knew it was out of warranty, but went online to the GoPro website and chatted with one of their agents to see if there was anything I could do to bring it back to life.

They didn't offer to even look at it to see if it was repairable.

But... they have kindly offered me a 20% discount off anything in their online store, all I have to do is send the old camera back to Singapore.

So I shipped it by UPS yesterday and will order a Hero7 Black once I get confirmation from them.

I just hope it arrives before my next trip to Penang & Langkawi.

You will really like it Tiz. FB's vid on his moto was super smooth as you saw as were the few I posted on my Mountain bike. I use my Hero 5 for all water activities now. The Hero 7 is for Moto and off-roading in truck. In fact I mounted the Hero 5 to my snorkeling mask now so I can free dive and not have to hold the cam. If it fails no biggie.

I did that when I was staying on Pandan Island, spent a long time swimming with a great turtle. When I got back on shore to review the video, the camera had moved and all I got was video of clear water....

going a bit off topic, sorry....

Here's some other turtle video that I took at Puerto Galera using the camera on a pole.
Its much easier to ensure the camera is pointed where you want it to be, and also with an extended pole you can get much closer video without actually having to be so close.

How does the new possibility of seeing you hurtling over your handlebars and under a lorry in full HD give her piece of mind?

That GoPro adapter for audio is a really nice add on. Sadly though it's a cludgy deal and makes it hard to mount anywhere. It's almost as big as the camera.

@FB, you can use a mic and the USB plug can be used with a small powerbank if you want to do extended videos. I mounted a small powerbank up underneath my fairing for long runs I can catch it all then edit later and not stop to swap batteries. Keep in mind (in case you didn't know) that GoPro cameras do not have loop features like a regular dash cam so you either need to dump vids or get a big Storage card.

Look forward to some vids and audio

How deep can a diver go with the cam? What depth is it rated to?

    The Hero5, 6 & 7 are rated to 10 meters.
Any deeper requires an additional housing.

Although my Hero5 did fill up with water in only a few inches of water. I don't know how the seal failed.

I'd used it plenty of times previously in both the swimming pool and in the sea without any issues, but never below about 5 meters.
