    Custom exhaust system

I am in the final stages of finishing off an MGB GT rebuild. I had a temporary exhaust installed for testing and shake down, but it was far to loud and needed to be changed. A friend recommended Type1 Exhaust as a good company to use. They arranged to have a transport truck pick up the car from my workshop in Lamlukka and deliver it to their facilities in Rama 2. It took them two days to fabricate and fit the new exhaust.

I am not sure how many people on this board need aftermarket exhausts fitted to their vehicles, but if they do I am very happy with Type 1’s and recommend their work.

Not likely to be of use to me personally... the MG looks nice though.

Did you flare those rear wheel arches?

The flares are from a fiberglass kit I imported from the States.

Goodo, thought it looked a little different.

Looks like you've done a nice job on the car.

I've allways wondered what it would cost to ship an old Mustang over to Laos. I figure it to be impractical but it would be cool to roll up in one. It probably wouldn't survive long in the climate. Fiberglass is the way to go there for sure.

I like your car. It looks real clean. Good luck with it. It's the kind that can handle the traffic well as far as zigzags go.

Mine is for going fast and frankly you cant see for crap out the back. It was explained to me years ago by the enthusiasts that what's behind you doesn't matter.

Well I figure unless it's the law. Tough to outrun the Motorola. I learned this at a young age on a motorcycle.
Long story but in shot the squad behind didn't have a chance however his buddies up the road damn near tried to kill me.

Silly copper pistol whipped me while I had a helmet on. Afte a couple quads tried to run me over. I just held my hands up as I was puzzled by his animosity towards me.

I was arrested and thrown in the sqaud. They were asking why I was running. I said I didn't even know I was being chased.

Luckily a crowd witnessed the pistol whipping. They let me go at 4am from the station. I walked with an infraction.

To bad they scratched the bike when they impounded it.

    Could have been alot worse.

Lesson learned. I should have took the trax and ditched it.

The works. Dart SBF 302 block bored and stroked to 374 ci complete with aftermarket crank, heads etc. Guessing that it makes about 475 hp at the crank.

Barty maybe you should post a thread and give us a walk around your workshop? I have seen you post but had no idea that you are a auto restorer/customizer. That said a V8 of the size you described should have a proper dual exhaust.

That is some nice work. With that kind of horsepower pushing that chassis I'd imagine you'd have a hard time keeping the rear wheel behind you.

I'm sure the engine breathes quite well with that setup. My Cleavland headers run back to 3.5 inch collectors down to 2inch dual turbothrush mufflers. Just your basic off the shelf hobbyists system, no fancy stainless and it snorts just fine.

Back then a stock 351 had about 300hp. Pushing a considerably heavier frame. I'd say that go cart you have there is going to scream if you can keep the rubber on the road.

Perfect for zipping around traffic. Nice job.

Ya I did notice that but what has me for a loop is why do they converge together? Seems to me it would be more efficient to have two separate pipes. I owned a couple of muscle cars when I was younger and I can't recall ever seeing an V8 exhaust done like this.

Fit 'n finish would be my guess.

I don't think it's an original V8 model MG(?) so the original exhaust was only designed to track down the left-hand side.

Often with conversions you've just got to plumb stuff like that where there's the path of least resistance.

X pipes are very common and a modern day twist on the H pipe.

X-pipes and H-pipes Add Easy Horsepower

It's called an X pipe. You'll find that nearly all modern V type engines have an H or X pipe in the exhaust system. It assists with exhaust scavenging and on some higher horsepower engines can add another 20 hp or so.

The exhaust is on the left side of the car because I would have had to move the fuel tank to the centre of the car to have the pipes exiting on both sides. That would have involved a lot of work that I didn't really want to do.

Here's a video showing the difference between straight pipes, X pipes and H pipes.

^ Ah thanks for the explanation! The modern part is why I had no idea. I have not had a V8 for sometime. The last one I owned was a '68 Ford Mustang that I bought in the late eighties.
