What tricks and gizmos do you want and use on your car?

... and what sucks that your car has, but you never use.

Mate of mine recently bought a new Beemer and, I believe, if you asked it nicely it could
scratch your back, massage your shoulders, chill a beer and maybe a quick HJ
But, I don't want to spend that sort of coin.

    Personally, I like ...

    • Rear Park assist (I just have the beepers, not a camera)
    • Seat belt pre-tensioners
    • ABS (Automatic Breaking System)

    I have, but don't use ...

    • Cruise Control
    • Automatic Headlights

    I don't have, but would like ...

    • Dash Cam
    • Heads up display (where your instruments are displayed on the windscreen)
    • In my mates beemer he has a control which opens the sunroof and maybe the windows so, on a hot day, the hot air is vented before you get into the car.
    • A sunroof

    I don't have and don't want ...

    • Leather seats
    • Heated seats
    • Tyre air pressure indicator
    • Automatic Wipers

    What about you?
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Get yourself a dashcam for the love of Lulu.

Will save you a lot of grief when some Thai in a truck or on a scooter pulls out in front of you and every Somchai in the vicinity lies about what they witnessed.

Plus you get 5% off your insurance premium for having one

Is that a self destruct button?

I like the camera view on my Prajero. Picture looks like from above so you can squeeze through those gaps much easier.

    What's wrong with leather seats?

I never use the auto for lights or wipers

I was tooling around with the cruise control on my car for the first time ever today as it happens.

Discovered that it automatically adjusts speed to keep a preset distance from the vehicle in front which is kinda nifty but it brakes quite hard and abruptly to do so which is quite disconcerting.

I have ABS,Traction control, belt pre tension, cruise, needed in OZ because of anal speed enforcement.
Sunroof, great on a hot day to get the heat out and nice on a normal day to make the car more airy.
Head up display is great around town,no having to look away from the road, rear view camera and a good quality dash cam.
The cam would pay for itself in one bingle, stop any prick saying it was not their fault.
    I like the Leather,never use auto wipers,lights.

Not sure what it's called, Lane Departure Waring maybe?. Anyway it's a sensational safety aide, a light come on in your wing mirrors if there's something in the blind spots. And if you try to change lanes and there's something in your blind spot, the steering wheel vibrates and a warning comes on in your heads-up display.

I don't have this in my car here but would really like too, it'd be a huge help in a country where being surrounded by motorbikes is common especially at night when half the fucking idiots don't have their lights turned on (to save petrol and/or battery apparently ).

The problem with having a hud, for me, is I'm sure in an emergency I'd be trying to pull up.

That minimum distance cruise control has caused some interesting accidents on the autobahn. A merc had his speed set to 200 ish kph. He sat behind a lorry to pull off and when he got onto the slip road, accelerated straight into the curve barrier.

I recently purchased a mazda cx3 in the uk, it came loaded with tech,

The tech i like and use a lot are the heated seats and steering wheel, (its the uk ) and the head up display which displays speed limits with a warning when they are exceeded , sat nav directions and speed.

I have turnedvoff the stop start, the lane departure warning vibration and the keyless entry operation.

The auto lights and wipers i find useful, as is the reversing camera. Rear visibility is poor to non existent on so many of todays cars.

Stuff thats a pile of shit here-
Cruise control is great when youre in a country that doesnt use every lane to overtake
    Rear heated windows
    Fog lights
    Horn
    Full beam
    Indicators
    Brake lights
    Automatic lights and wipers
    Leather seats- too hot
Sun roof- you can cool the air by opening the window Reddog. Those things turn your car into a mobile greenhouse
Lane departure warning- all well and good until you become accustomed to not checking blindspots, get into another car and kill an 8 person human motorbike pyramid display family on a honda click.
Dashcams- unless you drive defensively, stick to the speed limits , care about the paltry fines without a points system or are being driven by luigis mom.

    The good stuff-
Keyless ignition and remote locking/ unlocking
Anti car jack/Thai mob battering locks
    The petrol flap opener

I've heated leather seats that are nice in winter however I'd like them to be cooled in summer.

I love the remote start feature as it allows for a warm up in winter without me getting in it. A back up cam would be nice.

Dillinger,i only have my window down when want to style my hair, stick it out like a mongrel dog and the jobs done.
You are right about lane departure and blind spot monitor gizmos, makes a shit driver even worse because they don't physically check.
Same with collision radar,a lot of drivers have their mind in neutral and now expect the tech to do the job for them.
In the west with good roads and police enforcement of road laws, there are still tons of dicks who should never have a licence driving about,,,,,,,imagine what they would be like in Thailand, worse than the locals who just don't want to obey laws or do brain dead maneuvers.
Terry,India is a cracker for morons with the saving petrol lark,no wipers, lights, and angel gear down hills, makes you clench your ring piece a bit tighter.

Only thing that sadly I would like would be a reversing camera as my rear vision is limited and I have never been very good with mirror reversing.

Turn around and have a look, sticking your head out the window whenever possible. I get a laugh looking at people trying to reverse using only their mirrors.

    Reverse cameras should be mandatory.

Is quite easy to buy a 2 DIN android touchscreen to replace your stereo and add the camera to it.

Cruise control is great. You just need to learn to use it properly.

Learn how to reset the speed to your new preference and how to increment up and down. I just spent a week in Aust driving from Melbourne to Sydney and back and it was a great assist. Especially when you have 40 kph zones that you need to adhere to.

I have also used it extensively on Thai roads and if used correctly it works fine

You can tell when someone else is using cruise control by how little their speed deviates

I like and use a lot the option to apply "handbrake" at traffic lights by hitting the brake pedal twice, its then released when you touch the accelerator, also like the option to set maximum speed, dont know what it is called - not cruise control, which i never use in Thailand.
Also use auto lights and wipers and prefer sensors for backup rather than rear view camera.

I should have also asked ... what is your daily drive (not referring to your wife).

I wish, some where, somehow, the Citroën DS could be in there somewhere.
