    Motorcycle Club in Thailand

I recently met an old acquaintance of mine who is now living in Pattaya (we used to be neighbour in Hong Kong) and I was surprised that he has now adopted the biker look. I knew that he always liked motorcycle but it's a big change from the casual businessman I used to know. Then a mutual friend told me that he has joined the local chapter of the Mad Dog MC.

I was just wondering, what it the Mad Dog MC ? A social club for fat middle age guys going through a middle life crisis ? Or is it something else ?

From what I heard it is actually not really that fun. Military rules and mandatory attendance to club meetings and outings is not exactly something that I look forward for my retirement years. Aldo wondering, if you realize you made a mistake, is it easy to get out ?

We did. He just doesn't look really comfortable talking about his new friends, like we wouldn't understand. It's true it looks like a big life change. He is a nice guy. Middle life crisis is a ... crisis. Sometime you hook up with the wrong crowd and you make poor decision. We just want to know he is ok.

Funny you bring that up. I too have a close friend who has gotten heavy into motorcycle gangs in Pattaya. Head over heels for the White Devils. I figure if he enjoys it he should go for it.

I dont understand it at all though.

If a 1% club the bike belongs to the club irrespective who paid for it until you do 5? years as a member. If you leave before the time the bike belongs to the club.

People hear the words Motorcycle Club and immediately think trouble but mostly its just a bunch of accountants and shelf stackers trying to look cool as their hair falls out and their arses sag, like the rest of us.

I know them in Hong Kong, definitively true. In Pattaya I wasn't sure as they look more "bad-ass". But you should be right, that's probably why he feels embarrassed to talk about it ;-)

There's a fairly large Mad Dog presence in Manila and Angeles. A local magazine did a spread on them some years ago titled "Big Boys with Toys". I know/knew quite a few - couple of semi-hard guys, but for the most part guys with jobs who liked to ride on the weekend. I wouldn't worry about your mate.

Yeah the mad dogs in the Philippines are alright. Mostly retirees, they do a lot of poker runs to raise money for orphanages etc, just Guys that have bikes and want to do something other than sit in the bar,

Latest development, the guy has now disappeared after "borrowing" around $30,000 (THB 1,000,000) from various friends. What is very disturbing is it is not the first time (actually when talking with people it seems to be quite common) that a guy who has been for 20, 30 years a nice, honest members of the expat community in Asia moves to Thailand for his retirement and "lose it".
