    Speed cameras - fixed locations

I have been picking up speed camera tickets on a regular basis - got 2 in 1 day in october

I did try camsam on my android phone , but found the data via scdb.info seemed to be a bit out of date - maybe I will check again

so I though I might identify where they were so others might avoid the 500 baht demand in the mail

this one has boxes in both directions - little green mailbox type structures - though on tuesday heading north east I had a good look at the one facing me was empty , but I have been snapped a few times heading in the south west direction

this one is again in the divider with spindly trees for cover - it has snapped me once heading south west - I have not spotted it in the flesh yet as I only got the ticket this week for october , but I will have a look for it next time I go past - maybe with a bit of planning I can use my new hi res car cam to snap a photo

If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Did you pay both? I thought there was a rule in Thailand that you could only get done once on the same day. Or is that an old wives tale?

I'll be driving past there in a couple of weeks. Where are the cameras exactly? In the central reservation?

I saw a camera staring into my face a few days ago on Mitrapap Road. I didn't note the exact location but I think it was in Klang Dong, between Pak Chong and Muak Lek, approximately here: https://www.google.co.th/maps/place/14°45'28.6"N+102°02'30.8"E/@14.6359993,101.2522791,299m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d14.757933!4d 102.041901

There was a sign saying speed limit 90kph and I was doing 100kph. I might get my first ever Thai speed ticket.

It was at face level at an angle facing the outside lane (heading west), located at the rear corner of the upright pillar in the miiddle.

A bit of basic info on speed cameras being I speed all the time. I have physically looked at the camera. The field of view on the cameras they us is very narrow. If you are on a big highway and you want to drive fast, haul ass in the farthest left lane. The Cameras are pointed to catch the right lane and maybe half of the next. I routinely blaze up and down AH1 from BKK to Lampang and have never gotten a ticket and I sustain speeds of 120 to 140. In areas of an overpass camera just slow down a bit. The camera sensors activate at appx 100 meters out.

My wife is part of some Thai road camera group and they have detailed pictures where they are all up and down the Highway from Lampang to Korat being I drove that frequently

20 km North of Chanthaburi on the Sa Kaeo road 317, there is a 90 limit sign and overhead cameras. When driving south, into Chanthaburi there is a school immediately, like 50m beyond the cameras.

Warning signs indicating a 50km speed limit ahead, are a hundred metres or so prior to the camera. There is a thick red line across the road, after the cameras.

Am I correct the school limit is effective after the red line?

It's a wonder I havent been caught. I assume the speed limit when not posted is 100 kph. Every time I ask a Thai I get a different answer.

I laugh when I see the variance in the speedcamera signs - some areas they are metal and some areas are faded plastic - you can see how the allowances were spent in the different police districts

I want one of the James Bond license plate set ups that rotate around. Cops here would never figure it out.

Just a quick question. Do the speed cameras here take the photo from the rear or the front. I was doing 90 yesterday evening and got flashed from the front. Dunno if it was a speed camera or not.

^ Don't know about that, but you see a lot of cars with faded and illegible rear number plates.

A mate has one on his Fortuna. He says that once the number became illegible he stopped getting speeding tickets, which he picked up regularly before. He's obviously in no rush to get the plate fixed.
