The Toyota Hilux is supposed to be right behind cockroaches and John McClane on our comprehensive list of “hardest things to kill.” But looks like we might have finally found this supertruck’s kryptonite: evasive maneuvering.

We’ve seen a Toyota Hilux survive exploding buildings and a road trip to the North Pole. But try to make an aggressive lane-change at 37 MPH and suddenly the thing looks as safe as being a bad henchman in a James Bond movie.

The Swedish car safety inspectors at Teknikens Värld love the “moose test” because it simulates something Swedish drivers deal with all the time: dodging a moose at cruising speed. Auto manufacturers hate it because it puts a very visually unsettling strain on their vehicles. We naturally love it for the same reason. But you don’t need to live where wild moose roam for the test to be relevant– imagine anything popping into the road while you’re plodding along at 35 MPH, it’s still good to know how your car will react.

FFS. It is a pickup truck not a sports car. Any pickup would perform the same. Izusu, Nissan, Ford, Tata et al. Probably being tested for some useless EU regulation?

Problem of the late 20th, early 21 st century is:

General lack of acceptance of reality.
General unrealistic expectation or maybe call it unrealistic entitlement.

Just because a truck has a 3l turbo diesel and can be chipped etc, and belch black smoke and zoom down Bang Na -Trat at 220+kph does not mean it is designed to go around corners like a sports car.

If the test had been done in Thailand the tires would not have deformed like that as they would be inflated to the proper pressure of 50 psi.

A report published by Teknikens Värld said other models such as the Volkswagen Amarok, Ford Ranger and Nissan Navara coped with the same test without issue. It suggests that "something is seriously wrong with Toyota's dynamic safety system", and that its tyres may offer too much grip. The previous-shape HiLux failed the same test when equipped with optional 265mm-wide rubber, prompting Toyota's European arm to only offer the car with narrower tyres more likely to slide than tip onto two wheels.

20 years ago a tabloid newspaper did exactly the same thing with the Suzuki jeep.
The paper reported that Suzuki jeeps rolled at 35 mph.

555 other papers found that other makes also rolled at 35 mph.

This Farang twat is a worse driver than Somchai and is just getting cheap Internet publicity to sell his failing magazine.

Yes, numerous times.

And what I saw is the vehicle slow to reacting. When the driver first turns to his left, then right to correct himself, the car is slow to reacting to his correction. It is almost as though the truck wants to continue forward for a moment then the tires bite causing it to lift.
