The Ford workers where paid 5 dollars an hour , over 100 years ago.
That's good money even today.
My mistake, still considering that much of today's world still live on $2 + a day, those Ford workers of 100 years ago where we'll paid, Ford payed them enough so that they could afford to buy their own car.
Interesting little film, thanks. They were sturdy little machines that's for sure.
The other side of Henry Ford.....
A deeper real history reveals some rather nasty things.
You don't get through law school without reading this wonderful part of Ford history. This is the case in which they decided it was cheaper to let people burn to death and pay the lawsuits than it was to recall and fix the Pinto

$128 Million Fuel System Fire - California Car Burn Injury Attorney | Personal Injury & Product Liability Attorneys
In what was the largest verdict ever in a personal injury case‚ an Orange County jury awarded $128 million in compensatory and punitive damages. Grimshaw v. Ford Motor Company. ... Grimshaw and the heirs of Mrs. Gray sued Ford Motor Company and others.
Amusingly though the Pinto from inception was designed with a bladder in the fuel tank.
The beancounters got into it and deleted it prior to production to save a few pennies on each build.....
We used to beat the living shit out of rental ford pintos and chevy vegas.
The pinto was a much better car for the pos it was.
I was also kinda fond of the opel kadet pos, it took a good beating as well..
Still the best shitbox car ever was the 1963 dodge/plymouth dart/valiant with the 225 slant six
And later the little 318 v8 was damned tough also.

My mother had one. I broke the silly push button autotrans trying to speed shift. Ma was not amused.Originally Posted by Mr Earl
I loved those things, never had a problem with the auto push buttons.
I once bought a 1963 Dart Wagon with a seized engine for $25. Body and interior were very clean, even had good tires.
Squirted WD40 down the spark plug holes and let it sit for a few days. Took a cheater bar and turned the crankshaft. Once moving, she fired up! Smoked a bit at first, but after an oil change it mostly cleared up, but it was using oil. Sold the car to a biker dude for $400.
Kinda cool looking car. Mine was white.
Just wondering, why were/are so many American cars auto and not manual?
Was it a luxury thing?
You are right that is a nice car.
I think was because petrol was so cheap back when, and yes a luxury thing too.
But also the American automatic transmissions back then were tip-top kit.
Better than anything anywhere else, even Rolls Royce used the GM TH400 in their cars,
Ferrari, Bentley, Daimler and Jaguar also used it.
The Chrysler 'torqueflyte" automatic was the connoisseur choice as it had a better driving feel to it.
GM, and Fords tended to be somewhat mushy feeling.
The old Jensen Interceptor had the Chrysler running gear.
Another damn cool car.
