Ford Ranger Named ‘Pick-up Truck of the Year’ for Thailand and Malaysia in Inaugural

Kuala lumpur, Malaysia, December 18, 2015 – The class-defining new Ford Ranger garnered top scores from Malaysian and Thai judges at the inaugural 2015 ASEAN Car of the Year (ACOTY) award recently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“We are extremely proud that the new Ford Ranger was named ‘Pick-up Truck of the Year’ in the inaugural ASEAN Car of the Year award ceremony. This achievement and honor really highlights Ranger’s ‘Built Ford Tough’ credentials and solidifies its position as the benchmark by which all other pickup trucks are judged,” said Mark Kaufman, president, Ford ASEAN.

“Leveraging our proud truck heritage and global expertise in the pick-up truck segment, we’ve designed Ranger to take on the extreme environments that customers can experience daily in the ASEAN region. From class leading 800mm water wading to exceptional payload capacity, Ranger really is Built Ford Tough.”

Can the new model be driven through a puddle of water without major engine damage?

It's a safe bet fleet buyers will continue to buy Toyotas and Isuzus.

Not sure. Is there any more news on the Everest that burst into flames during a test shoot?

Try replacing a clutch slave cylinder on any old ford, (IN side the bell housing) dumb,
A toyota costs $9.10 and takes 15 min to install. ford got to pull 5 speed and cut exhaust pipes on older rusty 1990 - 2010. cost 52.00 for a slave cylinder big as your head. Hate fords as anybody that has to work on them, change design 3 times in one year. Why do you think ISIS use Toyotas 98% of time.

    You talk shit.

The ranger had a conventional slave cylinder up until 2011, it then went to the Concentric slave cylinder in the PX model.

The size is no bigger than your fist.

That Everest did the Mr Toasty due to an incompetent technician who fitted a replacement battery not reconnecting all the wires on the terminals correctly.

So the battery was replaced after 2 week

Ford says the problem is unique to the Everest road tested by News Corp Australia journalist Peter Barnwell because the battery had been replaced in Thailand after the early production vehicle sat in a compound near the end of the production line for two weeks.

When asked about two recent reports of fire in Ford Ranger utes, the company said it is "still investigating". Two other Ford Ranger ute fires were attributed to poorly fitted accessories.

Meanwhile, Ford says the person who replaced the battery in Thailand will keep their job but will undergo retraining.
"They will have a job and continue to have a job with the company ... we will make sure they get the proper training," said the chief engineer for the Ford Everest and Ranger vehicles, Ian Foston.

Probably the same reason 99% of Bangkok taxis are Toyotas and most fleet buyers choose Isuzu or Toyota pickups, Fords don't last (though there are occasional exceptions).

If you have a Thai speaker or a decent driver who speaks English, ask him or her to show you the odometer on his taxis, some have 700,000 kilometers or more on them in Bangkok traffic. It actually makes for an interesting conversation since many of the drivers are proud of how far they've been able to drive their cab.
