Enfield, like BSA was the former big arms manufacturer in the UK. Good to see them still in business.

I like the look. I much prefer the "old Style" for motorbikes to modern styles.

    I hope they sell well.

I do miss the Royal Enfield I had whilst I lived in India a few years back:

It was a Classic Chrome 500 and new from an authorized dealer in Delhi it cost me INR 156,000 (about Baht 85,000).

To be brutally practical, a Honda Wave will beat it for reliability, speed, comfort, economy, did I mention reliability - yes, but I'll mention it again for effect, reliability (I still remember the kick stand falling off mine in its first 100kms).

But that's sort of missing the point. I would have loved to have shipped mine back to Thailand when I left India, but we all know that idea, not dissimilar to the Enfield at times, was going to be a non-starter. It would have been wonderful for slowly thumping my way along the back roads of Isaan, pretty much doing whatever one would use a Honda Wave for, but in an immensely less practical and ultimately far more enjoyable way.

I guess I liken it to choosing to buy a car like a Bristol back when they made them. Monstrously expensive for what it was. Most, actually probably all, cars half their price were measurably better in nearly every way, and yet there was this wonderful feeling of having chosen a deeply eccentric choice with your heart rather than your head (or wallet).

I'm delighted they are now selling them in Thailand. I won't be buying one, but the motorcycling scene there is now that much richer for them being available...

    ... actually, I am a little tempted.

This was my '93 Enfield Bullet in The Netherlands:

I sold it when we permanently moved to Thailand and we still miss it.

So I have ordered a Classic 500 Chrome/Red already some time ago, an order without a price at the time!
I am OK with the prices we see now and look forward to the delivery mid February.

^ good man Brake, the Classic Chrome Red is a great looking bike.

Oddly enough ordering it without knowing the price is actually an entirely sensible thing to do when buying an Enfield. Knowing the price beforehand tends to make one try and rationalise the purchase, which would be a silly thing to do as you'll end up on a Honda Wave.

Please do post some pictures of the bike when it arrives in February.

Oh yes, and by the way, well done for working out how to put pictures up in TD, some people never get there.

Nice bikes. Hope they do well.
Thais seem to like the retro look.

They are doing well, I think they will sell more than 200 RE's during the Motorexpo!
Most of them Classic's but the Continental GT is also selling well.
By far, most customers are Thai and just a few are foreigners.

Curious to see how deliveries will pan out with so much bikes on order, but I am not in a hurry so let's see.

I was on the way home after work today when I saw this RE Continental GT earnestly making its way down the highway.

Apologies for the quality of the photos.

I wouldn't have bothered posting them if it wasn't for the bit of rope the guy was using to hold up his kickstand. I reckon his retaining spring has, well, sprung. I once had the same issue on my Enfield too (as a precursor to the whole stand falling off). Good to know that RE build quality standards are being maintained...

BTW - this was in Dubai. In fairness to RE, I think the Continetal GT has been on sale here for at least eighteen months now which would allow plenty of time for most of the bits to have shaken themselves free.
