    CDI

I have luck but it seems to be only BAD luck. I took my Honda NSR 150RR into the shop and had the rear breaks done, no problem there and then the bike won't start.

Turns out my CDI went out going to the shop. They can't find a second hand one NSR. CDI is totally different from the NSR. Whatever it is, I need a new one as my shop says there are NO second hand ones around.

Can anyone help me locating one. These are the numbers on the CDI:

    C1704
    T9.3
    111

My friend said they were over 3000 Baht for new, Can anyone help please?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Contact Brian from Sumet Cycles, Bangkok.

His wife owns their Honda dealership and he has been hired as director of foreign sales.

    CDIs can be fixed.
You don't need to buy a new one.

In fact ignore this twit completely. Check out the link in the next post.

Brian at Sumetcycle looked for it and still is. It's on back order and over 4000 Baht. I'm still looking. I might try the repair mode as I have nothing to lose by trying.

    Cheers

Same story, no good luck with fixing the old one. I have to find another one or see if I can locate an aftermarket one.

I don't wish to be negative but did your bike stop on the way there? I suspect knowing the CDI is worth 4000 and unobtainable. The one that doesn't work is not yours.

No spark or the RC valve is not moving?

I agree. You said you had no luck fixing the old one....what did you try ?

I had a similar unit in a car and had a look at the soldered side with a magnifying glass. There were 3 dry solder connections...barely visible. Tiny cracks going all around the soldered joint.
Run a soldering iron (and maybe a bit of solder) over the lot of them. Can't hurt to try....only takes a few minutes. It's the most likely cause as vibration will do this, and you get more vibration than in a car.

If that doesn't work, check for discolouration of components and perhaps replace individual ones..

I had a Transalp CDI go bad on me and Red Baron told me a new one would cost 'about' 17,000b for a new one. I was more shocked at the word 'about' because it meant that it could possibly be even more. I thought 'fuck that' and looked around for someone who repairs them.

I found a guy with a small shop that repaired my CDI for 1,000b (IIRC). It was maybe 7-8 years ago but he may still be there.

From Phetburi Rd turn onto Rama 6. I think it was Soi 19 (had a 7-11 at the mouth of the soi). Into Soi 19, immediately on the left was a row of shophouses. The guy had one of them. Not very well-signed so look for a few M/Cs in or outside the shop.

I guess my eyes are not the best but I could not find any cracks. Wish I had known about the guy that repairs them. Headed up to a shop today to pick one up. Will let everyone know.

    Cheers

I bought the new CDI and it worked fine. The good news is that my friend looked at my solder attempts and found another crack I missed. Soldered that and stuck it back in and works fine. I lucked out on the CDI as my friend is working on a Phantom and it needs a new CDI. I'll get my money back on the CDI.

It doesn't hurt to try new things and to ask for help.

Thanks to all for the help.

    Cheers,

    Eli
