The Packard Pelican hood ornament was first used in 1932 on the ninth series cars. There were many different variations of this design from 1932 until it was last used in 1957. This hood ornament evolved from the pelican on the Packard coat of arms.

In 1939, Packard Motor Car Co. called the pelican hood ornament on the seventeenth series a Cormorant for the first time. Many owners sent letters to Packard in 1939 and during the years after, disapproving of the name Cormorant. In 1951, Packard changed the name of the hood ornament back to Pelican because of all these letters from loyal Packard owners.

Look at the amount of room under the wheel arches on this race Flord Falcon! This car driven by Ailing Muppet actually won the Bathurst 500 using those wheels and tyres!

True, but look at the tyres under his '69 Mustang, just a few years later.

^That XW is either a Phase 1 or Phase 2 GTHO (can't tell without looking at the donk) so it's a '69 or '70 build, but you're right about that absolute beast of a Mustang that Moffat drove being a '69 as well. Was there maybe two different competitions back then like Touring Cars and something else that he raced both cars in at the same time? In any case, that 'Stang is up there with being the best looking race car I've ever seen, don't know how to post YouTube links on my tablet but there's footage of it doing laps in retro events and the soundtrack of that engine is mesmerising.

I think the skinnies on the coon are the result of production car homologation.

Big wide tyres were defo available back then.

You must be right about that, just looked at Bathurst race pics from '69 and all the cars were on razor blades.

Yes, he raced Falcons and the Mustang at the same time but in two or three different classes. If I recall correctly, the Falcon was sponsored by Ford Australia and the Mustang was under his own race team. He moved to the XB and XC hardtops in the mid 70's and then onto the RX7. As a teenager I was a big fan of him, that tiny RX7 up against the Ford and Holden V8s, always keeping up with them but never able to win Bathurst in it.

Interestingly, the Mustang was sold to someone in NZ where it had Brut 33 sponsorship and was painted green. They took a very good looking car and made it look odd IMHO. It is now back in Oz in a family owned museum. For a while I owned a 70 Mustang fastback here in Thailand, my intention was to make it into a Moffat tribute car, but unfortunately never got around to it.

The electric car will be the saviour of the US auto industry, it will allow them to move from horse & cart tech to turn of the C20th missing out completely on most of the C20th automotive developments they watched the rest of the West and Japan develop. They could even make a car that goes around corners.

Flord and GM are the only American companies left! Flord recently released their electric "F" truck and GM have the Hummer...which looks great BTW if unobtainable for me at US$100.000+ but the base Flord is said to be coming in at just under US$50k.

My point is there is only so much lithium available to make batteries and the progress on sodium-ion and graphene batteries is glacial slow so other technologies like Hydrogen (fuel cell app) will take a chunk away from electric. Personally I feel it would be more beneficial to have onboard hydrogen generation in a hybrid hydrogen/benzine car than add the weight of tanks and the inconvenience of refueling of the fuel cell model.

Then again who's to say someone won't come up with another alternative. Nitrogen is overwhelmingly available in the atmosphere and if the conversion to work can be controlled it could be a future alternative fuel. There are currently (and have been over the years) experiments done.
