69,000 baht is a lot of money for an absolute piece of crap...

I saw this add in the Uk that wanted about 25,000 baht, & I reckon that's outrageous...

from the same website, here is a much better proposition.

a beautiful piece of sixties americana, one of the new breed of smaller american cars, this one is a wonderfully proportioned designed that has aged well and with an absolutely gorgeous dashboard too.

fair price i would say. its a very desirable and usable classic. not too big, not too thirsty for a 60's yank.

you might pay £20K in the UK if it was in A1 condition.

^ might be a fair price, but would't get me excited at that price personally. I prefer me old Lotus Elan +2, and that was a third of the price. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose...

I can see it's a nice car, nice shape, has style, but...

i dont think you could get a sorted elan now for under 30K.

heres a tidy +2, £15K, thought they would be more expensive.

Used 1969 Lotus Elan [Pre-76] for sale in Bedfordshire | Pistonheads

again, a wonderful classic british dashboard. elegant and functional. lucas and smiths instruments, toggle switches, what more could you ask for.

ive always liked 50 and 60's american cars, ive never owned one, although i did rent one from a specialist rental agency once whilst on holiday in the usa. a huge olds convertible, looked like the red one but bigger, cant remember the model name though. good fun to drive around in, but i dont know how i would feel about driving something so conspicuous and showy in the uk, and convertibles are just plain daft in thailand.

    Overview Production 1963–1969 (2000)

    2,498 cc straight-6 (2.5 PI) Transmission manual 4-speed gearbox (overdrive optional)[8] or
automatic Borg-Warner Type 35[8] Although the "Mk 1" was presented to the public at the London Motor Show in October 1963, volume sales began only in January 1964. Continuing in production until 1969, this version came in saloon and, from 1965, estate forms. The estate, its body shell partly built by Carbodies, was in the Mk 1 version the same length as the saloon. Various minor improvements were made during the period of which the most noteworthy, probably, was a significant upgrade in October 1966 to the "previously rather ineffective" ventilation, with eyeball vents added in the centre of the facia and the heater controls repositioned beneath them.[9]
In 1968 the 2.5 PI (petrol injection) Mk 1 was launched, fitted with a Lucas Automotive mechanical fuel injection system. Performance was very good, but the PI models (along with the TR6 models) gained a reputation for unreliability and poor fuel economy.
In Australia these models suffered badly because of the summer heat. The electric fuel pump commonly overheated causing fuel to vaporise and render the engine inoperable until the pump cooled down. The overheating of the pump was caused by a combination of very high pressure fuel loads (over 110 psi (7.6 bar)) and a pump that was adapted from what was originally a windscreen wiper motor. As such, it did not cope well with sustained pressures in moderate to high ambient temperatures. Because of the launch late in the Mk I's life, there are relatively few PIs in the original shape.

Typical parts bin production using a wiper motor to drive the fuel injection system.

Sorry to copy the whole thing, but I do like the pics of that car...

I bought mine in about 97 or 98, it was perfect, or close to, for 6,500 pounds, spent 1000 pounds on doing the engine (which was good already, had the Webber carbs, 130hp engine), so for 7,500 pounds I had a really great vehicle, in red. Very cheap, even then - great value. Similar to this:

I like some of the Americana, certainly would be nice to do a road trip across Yankland in one. I like the Stingray best of all.

Found this clip while 'researching' the body kits thread. Besides the Renault 5 GT [?] [did I get that right Betty?] - can you name the other cars?

It's a Renault 5 Turbo 2 (or it might be the R5 Turbo 1, they are very similar - the 2, usually has a 2 on the side of the car though). I looked at buying one, but they were quite a lot of money, and expensiveish to maintain. R5s of that era didn't have the best reputation for build quality, mostly (only, I think) LHD too.

Thirty thousand pounds, or so, is a lot for a R5...

R5 Turbo still holds the unofficial land speed record around a roundabout!
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
